Is there a way? I have 3 bags of cuddly toys, 3 Ikea bags of glasses and knick knacks, 4 bags of books, a bag of vinyl and a box of old tools.

Not long before they open again. Pisses me off when people leave bags of stuff outside closed charity shops

They are going to be overwhelmed

I’d imagine a lot is just going to get weighed in for scrap value

You could sell it on gumtree and donate online

Personally I’d pop it in the loft and wait until we are well and truly back to normal.

Everyone has had a jolly good clear out, in a years time they will probably be low on stock again

Do you have a Charity section at your local tip? Ours has a section for donations, they sort out into different categories and work with a number of local charities to distribute.

Also use your local FB pages, as while a lot of the shops will be closed people will still be working with charities and will be still looking to give away things for free.

Having got a note through my letterbox I downloaded an app called NextDoor - it's a social media thing for your local neighbourhood.

I've passed on loads of things this way recently - there are plenty of people out there who are going through a hard time and don't have much cash.

Quick photo / description / free to first person to collect, I'll leave the porch door unlocked.

There's absolutely nothing that hasn't been snapped up ie offcuts of timber from a project (a guy who wants to get into furniture up-cycling uses them to practice techniques on) and a dead hifi midi system I found in the loft (young kid interested in electronics wanted to take it apart and see how things work).

The most surprising is paint! Experience has taught me that we never, ever use the remaining half of the tin 'to touch up any scuffs in the future'. It goes to the garage, lives there for 5 years, goes hard and is then dumped. And in 5 years time it's probably time to paint the room again with new colour and fresh paint. The guy that comes to get them is struggling for work and does little arts and crafts projects to fill the days, so it's a brilliant win win.

Even fresh food when I've had too much of a particular item in the delivery boxes or when the fruits ripen on the garden trees. A mother and daughter who took a load of apples last year came back 3 days later and left an apple pie which was lovely!

I've been the recipient also - a neighbour was donating some Jack Reacher books they'd read. Picked them up, read them over the a few months, and then back on the app to pass them on to the next person. Gone before the end of the day.

So a very handy way to avoid clogging up my house or throwing stuff out that can be donated to others. Plus you get to know some some characters in your area you might not otherwise meet - and as I get older I find that I like that smile

Worth a thought OP thumbup

Look at your local animal shelters etc. My mum took a few bags off me to them. Sell what they can online and the rest goes to the animals for bedding etc.

Most charities, including animal charities, are absolutely overwhelmed with stuff at the moment and are desperate for less donations, or no donations.

Even when they open back up again, I suspect they will be sifting through mountains of rubbish for weeks or months.

Right now, you would probably be doing them a favour by taking it to the tip rather than keeping it for when they reopen.
