I know this is the wrong forum, not sure where it should go.

After about 4 years of being engaged, we might finally actually get married this year!

Looking at rings, I'd like something really weighty, and it seems that Tungsten Carbide is the toughest etc, does that make it the heaviest?
Anyone got a ring made out of this?
Or maybe I'm wrong and Platinum is what I'm after?

You deem carrying this for ever will not be enough?

Im in a similar position to you OP. Not quite 4 years but getting close.

I have been looking at this company recently as I work in hospitality and these metals (stainless steel and titanium) will be hard to mark .

Density is what you need to look at. For the same size/volume ring, the one with highest density will be the heaviest. You can find densities online for the various metals you’re interested in.

Blimey, good point! That's pretty basic science, I should know that!

Looks like Platinum tops that chart then!

I have a palladium ring, which I will start wearing if our wedding ever goes ahead. It's nice a weighty compared with some of the gold rings I tried on. Sounds like you want something even heavier though.

For what its worth, I got mine through wedding rings direct. The high street shops let me down and then stopped selling the original ring I wanted, so opted for an online store.

And unsurprisingly an Iridium ring is looking like several thousand £££. Maybe not rofl

If you get a Titanium ring you won't be able to adjust is as you get older and your finger size changes (as far as I understand it) so the ring that you put on on at your wedding won't necessarily be the one you're wearing as you get old and grey together.
That may not bother you, but I'm a soppy old sod and I like to think that the ring I'm wearing now will always be the ring I'm wearing so I went for palladium.
It's got a few knicks and scratches but I see that as a measure of the length of my marriage smile

Good point, didn't really think about that. For some reason I imagined my fingers would stay the same size forever! doh.

I've got a palladium one, but I don't wear it so just got a band tattoo'd on my finger instead.

Currently trying to decide if I can justify £4k on a ring that can't be resized......I do like the idea of having an extremely rare ring like this though: https://www.americanelements.com/irmwb.html

Much easier to remove a ring when the time comes though, and the satisfaction of launching it off a cliff into the sea is pretty cool.

You are depriving yourself of a future joyous moment.

(I am joking, kind of)

We booked a "make your own wedding rings" day at a local jewellery workshop and made each other's bands by hand from raw gold stock (we went for 18k white gold). It was great fun, and it make them so special. I know everyone has different tastes in wedding stuff, but everyone I've recommended this to has agreed they absolutely treasure them because they're hand made by each other.

Just to throw one thing into the mix, try as best you can, whatever metal you choose to make sure you are not allergic to it, as I found out a few days after getting married with my wedding ring, I did tell the Mrs I was allergic to getting married whcih didn't go down well, but that aside I found I was getting blisters under the ring which turned out to be an allergic reaction. I haven't worn a wedding ring for 12 years now (still married though).

Something to consider before dropping a large amount of cash on a ring.

We also did this at a jeweller in Edinburgh and had a great time. The rings were made in silver and then cast in platinum for her and palladium for me. Mine is a 6mmx2mm D-shaped band that has a nice weight to it. It has a brushed finish that can be reapplied with scotchbrite which is ideal and somehow I've not managed to lose it in almost four years!
