I've always used the overground into Liverpool St.. I now have to travel via Central line.. What a shambles.. And the hoards of people haven't even returned to work yet..
The scam that is crossrail should eventually come in and alleviate some of the crowding.. But I have the feeling it'll be more like bringing a service from 120% capacity back down to 100% capacity.. As the years or operating under capacity have already been surpassed by delays in opening the line and numbers have already gone up..
Hopefully more people stagger travel and wfh.. But again, there are already times the tube is overcrowded when people are supposed to be at home/social distancing..
So to answer the question.. The poll needs an option for both Expensive AND overcrowded..

Fwiw, I voted overcrowded despite being expensive.. But that makes it sound like one part of the equation would be bearable in isolation. I'd argue that's not the case.
Have they not been like that for many years now though so nothing new really.
We went on a train journey through Germany to Austria a few years ago, it was 110 miles each way, the trains ran to the second, were clean, we all had comfortable seats, and all this for 12 euros return each.

What we need is a network of trebuchets and trampolines so we can fly free through the air to wherever we want to be.

Given the railway industry has some of the top paid jobs in the UK it does baffle me why people are shocked the cost for a ticket is so high.
When the person driving the train is on £90k a year, the conductor £50k a year and the signal operator £40k a year suddenly getting that train from A to B costs a lot more than you might think.

well lets hope WFH and flexible working are here to stay then as say 2 days WFH a week is 40% reduction in train journeys and then its a lot harder to justify those salaries, say WFH becomes 3 days then 60% fall in travel how long before normal makes public transport prices pointless.When the person driving the train is on £90k a year, the conductor £50k a year and the signal operator £40k a year suddenly getting that train from A to B costs a lot more than you might think.
We will always need public transport but the rail firms and TFL take the pee as does mayor of london so WFH is a way for commuters to push back and say enough, either better, cheaper system or we won't use it. Think of all the times they go on strike well we the public can do the same now see how they like it

They're going to have to do something about season tickets. Who is going to be happy to pay for a ticket for travel every day when they are going to be working from home a lot of the time? There should be some option of maybe a number of journeys each year or week that is cheaper than just buying a return each time you go into the office. Otherwise people are going to either drive in or just go in nearly every day because they have already paid for their season ticket.
