It’s quite cathartic to know that you’re in the driving seat. Take their money, look at it as pocket money. I’d get bored without any sort of job.

I have been in this position for about 6 years now, moved to a much cheaper area so mortgage free with enough to easily cover my needs and wants.
I tried doing the no stress, carefree job for 3 years but I just didn't really want to be there, so quit 2.5 years ago. And I have not even thought about working since. I find enough to entertain myself, I will never be rich, but then I am happy living the way I do.

I would go back to work in a shot.Looking after a property with 5 hectares is very time consuming,it’s also more expensive than I thought.

No chance I'd work for somebody else, I'd probably tinker in my workshop/ garage and buy/ sell old motorbikes.

Yes.

I enjoy my job. There is also the comfort and assuredness that if you stopped enjoying it, you could just leave.

I've sometimes looked at the lottery game where you get £10k a month for life and thought I'd still work for a while, just to build up some more cash.

With just enough to cover outgoings, I'd work so I could have better comfort than I have now and nicer things to enjoy - cars, holidays, experiences and the like.

But would I work my ass off in a job I hated if that were my circumstances? Hell no.

I stopped work young as I had earned enough, had enough money etc etc but it only lasted about 6 weeks !
I got super bored the lack of things to do made me anxious so now I always work ! I just buy and renovate houses - takes me ages as I do most of it myself but it keeps me busy and active.
It’s just a case of doing Things that you like.
I need to fill the day and I’m pretty sure a lot of people who retire young say the same.
I would like to do it in the sun though so buying a place overseas is next for me I think

Yes I would, and I would be happy to keep my exact job I do now but I would be doing it for myself so I don’t have to answer to anyone other than carefully selected customers. I need work to keep me in some sort of routine and sanity. Without work I start falling apart as a person.

This is exactly what happened to me - you need routine in life I think - if I lived in the sun I would probably volunteer a few hours a day before hitting the beach ...

I can afford to retire, but I'd get bored very quickly. I need something that really makes my brain work, and I do enjoy my job, so I'm just letting the "fun car" fund grow until some more new toys are available, and I can afford a place with a bigger garage to house them.

I'd do the exact same. Tinker with old cars and old motorbikes in a nice warm garage

I was in that position about 9 months ago, and stopped working.

I've basically wasted that time just pottering, and tinkering with stuff. Its been bliss

I would still have a job or occupation to keep me busy but if i was wealthy enough to do all my hobbies and pay bills etc then it would probably be unpaid work.

Eg volunteering at a charity

If i was fit enough again, volunteer for the RNLI, or mountain rescue/coastguard or similar.

I would be a volunteer firefighter but we don't really have them here just retained which is part time work so still has high competition.

Basically volunteering with things I already have skills and experience with so i can help others and also help myself.
