Breathable hat

My mate is bald and suffers with the sun, but his head sweats so much in a hat that it has given him some pretty serious skin problems. He’s got all sorts of creams for his head which are addressing the ‘effect’, but between me and him, we can’t find anything to address the ‘cause’.

Was chatting to him about trying a breathable hat and he said he’d tried one before but it was useless. Does anyone have any ideas for a decent hat (baseball cap style preferably) that is genuinely breathable or would help? He’s started not going out places because of it and he’s a sociable sort of chap so I’d love to get something for him that might help!

(Ps - it’s genuinely a mate, not me!)

But they don’t tend to keep the sun off. Literally 10 minutes in a moderate sun and he’s screwed!

I wouldn't get too excited over this 'solution'. I suffer the same issue as per your OP and have tried loads of so-called breathable hats/caps but the problem remains. I feel the problem is simply because there is something sat on the skin on my head which causes the temp to go up and the sweating to start which of course makes the headwear wet and further exacerbates the problem. Even have this in the depths of winter temps.

Most bike shops sell decent hats for this reason. Some have a kind of liner that you put on first that stops sun burn but allows sweat to get out.

Pedant that I am, clothing is UPF, not SPF But the good news is OR tell you the rating for the lightest (colour) in the range .. so for the Swift, the white one is UPF 50 but the darker you go the higher the factor. I burn like a good’un so have the dark blue one.

It might be worth looking at chemo hats, they're deliberately soft with no stitching inside.
