I'm not looking for people to make admissions to heinous criminality here (although if you want to then fill your boots, it's your risk!). What sort of enterprising things have you done and managed to get away with to your advantage?

For example, when I was a student in halls I went to check my post one morning and in my pigeonhole there was a flyer advertising a job working for a marketing company to promote a mobile phone brand to other students. It sounded like an easy enough job and came with a few free perks so I decided to apply. And to improve my chances of getting the job I removed the flyer from every other pigeonhole while I was there.

When I went for an interview they said that they were surprised that they had only had one application from my university. hehe

On a similar theme, I once won £105 from a local radio station (coincidentally around the same time as my previous confession). I got a cheque through the post a couple of days later then when I returned from university one weekend I opened up my post to find another cheque for £105. Put it towards a new watch.

When I was in high school and friend and I used to get as many multi packs of sweets / chocolate and chewing gum from the supermarket (Kwik Save!) on the way to school.

We would stand in front of the school ‘tuck shop’ and sell our wares, chewing gum wasn’t sold by the school so we could charge normal price for that.

We were rather successful and got dragged in front of the head teacher to be told to stop.

Instead we sold in the corridors and before class etc, it made a nice little profit, enough for a few beers on a Friday anyway!

Cigarettes were the other one, easy 50p each, acquire packs and give to a friend who smoked to sell in ‘the lanes’, split the profit.

School was brilliant.

Some friends had light fingers, some stock may have been pure profit …

Had a massive delivery of pub stuff (branded glasses, beer mats, ice coolers etc) delivered to my house, told the delivery guy it wasn't me but he refused to take it back and dumped it at my door. Sat on it for a year or two and sold it on eBay for a couple of hundred quid.

I worked for large company that had a couple of fantastic restaurant/canteens that ran all day starting with cooked breakfasts in the morning, 3 course lunch, and a take out/deli counter in the afternoon for anyone that missed lunch. That also had a decent coffee bar.

You used a payment card that the company credited with enough for one meal a day, and you could add your own cash for any extra food and drinks.

No money was ever debited from my card and I abused the hell out of it smile

Ordered a Ring Floodlight Cam (£250 worth) last year.....First one took many days to arrive (should have been next day).....called them up and got all the usual BS, promised it would be here the next day.....within minutes of coming off the phone, it had arrived....followed by a second the day after.

Not a massive win, but needless to say I now have both front and rear coverage.......

Ordered a pair of fairly heavy duty wall mounted bike hangers for the garage. If they were any good I planned to order another 2 so we could hang all 4 bikes up. However, after a couple of weeks they hadn't turned up despite the order showing as delivered (Amazon). Opened a dispute and they came back pretty quick to say they would send out another pair, no problem. Sure enough a few days later they turn up.

About a month later I go into the local Royal Mail collection office to pick up another parcel, the guy there asks if I want to take this other parcel as well which turns out to be the original order. No idea how long it had been sat there, I was going to inform Amazon but never got round to it... whistle

I used to work abroad, but I’d commute out, only spending four or five days overseas during any one stay. As such, I’d hire the cheapest rental car I could for the week as transport, just to get me between the airport (where I worked from) and the apartment I was sharing. However being the stingy git that I am, when I went to work, to avoid paying for airport parking I’d just sneak the rental car back into the relevant rental company car park, put the sticker back in the window and disappear…. Worked a treat, saved myself hundreds if not thousands of euros in parking fees in the normal car parks. It was also right by the terminal so I had a much shorter walk back to the car than my colleagues…

In the late 90s there was a short lived internet currency (more of a points system) called "Beenz"

You could earn Beenz for doing different tasks like signing up for websites or visiting certain pages. Critically, for the most part, the Beenz earnt for a website signup would be a unique one time thing and not replicable by the same user. They were also not transferrable between accounts.

However, as greedy teenagers some friends and I noticed that one gambling website had a small loophole where if you signed up with a new email address you could still specify the same single Beenz account. A tool was hacked together that signed up for a hotmail address with a randomised name, signed up with that address to this gambling website and got the free signup Beenz.

We'd leave this running all day while at school with rough calculations of how many squillions of beenz per hour we'd be generating, having given my mum express instructions not to touch the telephone (absolutely no feedback loop or redundancy was built into this tool so if you tried to call granny while it was chugging away it'd never recover).

The biggest issue was how to actually spend these points. The pool of sites that accepted them as currency was small and ever shrinking as Beenz slowly fell apart. I remember the two things I could buy were CD singles and Magic 8 balls.

The inevitable sad conclusion to this was me trying to sell 500 copies of Dane Bowers and Victoria Beckham's single to a bemused third party music retailer who had absolutely no intention of paying me more than 5p a CD.

Happy memories!

When I was at school I got to know about some kid who'd forced the lock on the cash tray of the phone box at the end of my road. You couldn't tell it had been done.
I used to finish school and get down there before him and empty it biggrin There was never much in, just a few 10 and 2ps, but it did ok for a few days until presumably BT came to empty it and fixed it, that was the end of that.

My mum used to buy Saverstrips (Kerching!) for my bus fare to and from school, probably to stop me from spending the money, although IIRC you may have got 2 rides free. I used to get on the bus along with all the other kids and just pretend to put it in fully before pulling it out unmarked. If you did it enough times you could pocket the money for one to spend on sweets.

Road guys were out marking up some footways near me for resurfacing/reconstruction. The bit by my house wasn't included, but was an awful patchwork of conrete repairs, so I waited for them to go home, and copied their markings on the footway outside my house in the same colour paint. 2 days later, they came and dug up all the old concrete and replaced with nice shiny tarmac. I was very pleased. My neighbours were jealous and a bit annoyed that I hadn't included "theiir" bits too.

When I was 10 I saved up £30 in pound coins and went to blacks to buy a 2 man ridge tent

Got home and it was a 3 man dome tent which was probably 60 quids worth

Still being used from time to time, been to Le Mans numerous times, don’t make em like that any more

The smell when you get into it reminds you of being 10, without sounding weird that’s priceless.

Bought a low end AV receiver about 15 years ago, just when HDMI was beginning to be a thing. I was away on business and a local store had one in stock, so decided to go there and get it. Picked up the unit, threw it in the boot of the car and drove 300 miles home, only to find they’d given me the 1500 quid model, not the 200 quid model.
