Not the most heinous crime in the world but we’ve got a plate in our cupboard that shouldn’t be there.

We had my birthday in a local hotel years ago and had a cake.

Well as with most birthday cakes it was much too big and we took the remainder home on a plate that they had put it on.

Needless to say that plate never got returned and now scolds me every time I open the cupboard.

There must be countless items in houses up and down the land like that.

What you got?

An Audi tea cup and saucer, white with the OOOO in silver

Went to a special event organised by Audi and I was brought a cup of tea out to my car whilst I was talking to an Audi employee. I put the cup down on the roof of my car. Many hours later I went back to the car and the cup was still there and the Audi people had gone.

A wine cooler from a wedding many years ago. it has been on my mind to get one and well, there it was.

What was worse, the person whose wedding it was, we were talking to them some time later and said 'never figured out why we were charged 20 quid for a wine cooler after the wedding'.

Doop pee doo.

Not quite as cute a story as you think. What did you think what was going to happen, other than the newlyweds being charged for it?!

In a similar vein, we bought a cake from a local fete last month. "Please return it." - both vocally, and on a sticker on the back.

It's still in the cupboard.

I used to live in Amiens (France) some 30 years ago (how'd that get to 30 years? Seems like yesterday yikes ) and the girls I was with nicked the silver "bill/tips tray" and one of those really long silver spoons you use for stirring those long glasses from a place called the Cafe L'Imperia. I still have them to this day - they're really nice.

The cafe is long gone, sadly. Met some odd characters in there.

No. The rest of us are not thieves. I'd be mortified to find that more than a week after someone lent me a plate, that I still had it. Even by mistake.

Toilet roll.

I hooked it on the outside of the trolley and forgot to put it on the checkout belt. I only realised once back at the car.

These threads really test my moral compass. The theft of a plate from a local fete pisses me off no end as I can imagine some lovely old lady who enjoys making cakes for such events being quite upset at losing the plate that she uses and tearfully buying a new one.

Likewise things pilfered from independent cafés and the like. Out of order.

Audi UK can afford to lose a teacup though. Fair game.

I know the offence is the same so I'm a hypocrite but I can live with that.

Honestly, I'm genuinely not getting all holier than thou, but with local events like that, if no-one returned plates and stuff, it would probably cause problems, or at the very least, unnecessary expense.

Well this thread is going to be interesting smile

Be careful what you own up to hehe

My guilty secret is that I got a 45p roll from Sainsbury and pressed the wrong category at the self checkout and only paid 30p for it so I borrowed a third of it.

On that theme, my mate was collecting Panini football stickers at the last World Cup and the auto checkout didn't recognise anything in the bagging area due to the low weight of a pack but if you had a stack of six packs in your hand, scanned one and put the lot in the bagging area it worked fine.

Whilst I would completely st myself if I ever tried shoplifting and it really wouldn't be worth getting caught as I work in the grocery supply industry so would lose my job for the sake of saving a couple of quid on stickers it's the sort of theft I can get on board with. Replace people with machines that don't work properly and you're inviting it.

yes

Sainsbury now have a big display of Lindt chocolates where you help yourself from various plastic containers that stand about 3 foot deep off the floor. You select your box size and cram as many in for a fixed box price.

A bit like strawberry picking in the summer, pick one, eat one, pick one, eat one, rinse and repeat, just make sure you wipe your face properly before going into the farm shop to pay for the half in the bag or at the Sainsbury checkout.

I remember going to Essington Fruit Farm in Staffs with my kids and their Grandad. You can have sunday lunch there, it's really nice.
Kids , after eating their sunday lunch, 'Dad, can we have a pudding...?'
Grandad, ' Pudding? Your puddin's out there!', pointing to the PYO in the fields. biggrin
