When I was a teenager, I cheated in a competition at the local village hall charity fundraiser event.
You know the format:
A jumble sale, tombola, bring & buy, cake stand, white elephant stall, overdue library book stall, raffle, tea & scones, you know the drill.
Boring as fk...

But when I saw the "Guess the number of sweeties in the jar: 6d per entry" competition, I'm afraid I just couldn't help myself. paperbag

"Are we allowed to pick the jar up and look at it?"

"Certainly" said the sweet old lady from the WI.

"Sucker!", thought I, as I unashamedly lifted the jar and counted the number of sweeties across the diameter of the bottom of the jar and mentally divided it by two. Then I nonchalantly counted the number of sweets up the side of the jar, and used the secret formula to arrive at my best guesstimation of the total number of the contents.

At the end of the day, it transpired that my entry was the nearest by a country mile and I had won the (obvious) prize: The Jar of Sweeties! woohoo

I still feel guilty after all these years for using mathematics to gain an unfair advantage over fellow villagers, even though I have far fewer teeth than I did back then..

What did you do long ago that has left you with a feeling of remorse?

Your idea of events that require confession and mine would appear to differ. Greatly.

Sold a multipack can of Diet Coke as an individual unit at a fete once.

Still keeps me up at night wondering when the feds will beat the front door down.

Being clever enough to calculate is a "Confession"? Ok then.

When PS5s were in short supply it was possible to write a script to ensure you were notified immediately when one was available. I now have a PS5. I feel awful (not really..)

This thread could have held great promise if it weren't for the OP's rather weak confession. smile

Agreed. When he said he picked the jar up and thought sucker, I was expecting him to just do a runner with it laugh

Or at least noticed they’d put a sticker with the total number on the bottom of the jar.

I can’t recall anything minimal enough for the thread, keep me posted when there’s an extreme version.

That is brilliant, I particularly like this one biggrin

I reckon another dog does it for them."
