What happened to all those 'get your post count up' threads?

Don't know if anyone remembers the 'series' conversation threads like

I went to the shops and i bought some bananas..

or Mallets Mallet types?

I found them very quick fire and entertaining but always wondered if they were just to get the post counts up in the days where you had to post xx times before you could do yyy etc?
