About an hour ago I was stood outside the local barbers, waiting for them to open. It's in a small rural town, on a narrow high-street with a pavement not wide enough for 2 people to pass. It's busy and there's lots of parked cars.

As I'm waiting, I look up the street and see a middle aged woman about 50 yards away, walking towards me on the pavement. Behind her, at speed, is a bloke on a bike with his young daughter perched on the handlebars. He's about 30 and unkempt. His daughter must be 3 or 4. Neither are wearing helmets. The bloke bellows at her to move and forces his way past her and swears at her. I say "on the road please mate" as I step into the doorway to let him pass.

5 minutes later he's back, minus the girl, f-ing and blinding at me. I calmly explain that it's illegal to ride on a pavement, and dangerous. His reply is "you want to see dangerous" as he steps off his bike. He looks a bit stabby but I'm definitely bigger than him so not going to back down. At that point the barbers come out and he decides to leave, doing that "big talk whilst walking away" thing that angry poor people do.

After speaking to the woman, the barbers and a passer-by my feeling is he's not the sort of person many people want in this town. Threatening behaviour and putting the safety of a young child at risk. People like him are *very* rare in a nice town like this and we don't want to encourage them or let them change the feel of the town.

Do I take it further? It's on CCTV.

The guy sounds like a total dick. However I'm not sure if being a "total dick" is illegal. If it IS then I'm not sure his level of dickery will meet the Police threshold for taking action.

How so? It's not in the Pedal Powered room so I doubt he'll see it. That's if he can read!

I was too.

He immediately raised his voice. He had no retorts to my points regarding safety or legality.

A very unpleasant individual.

I'm an outsider. Born 200 miles away but I seem to fit in just fine.

Some great phrases in there.

“Angry poor people” is a highlight though.

There isn’t anything to take further? What are you going to do hunt him down for a fist fight? Forcefully deport him? laugh

Sounds like you ran into one of the millions of people that are a bit rubbish.

I've only ever encountered one other.

A teenage girl, who looked like she could be related to the guy in my original post. In my local supermarket she pushed in front of me in the queue "because the bus was coming". I saw her leave in a car.

I'm still upset about that.

Generally everybody around here is friendly, polite and honest.

Definitely worth getting stabbed over.

What is the benefit here, do you think he doesn’t know it’s illegal and that he should be riding on the road?

Or did you think because some stuck up middle class spiv tells him it is wrong he will suddenly listen?

What was the ideal outcome, he jumps off doffs his cap and sings your praises for enlightening him?

It's like there's some sort of punchline to be delivered in a few hours' time, like the world's longest joke.

Sounds like two of them ran into each other.

Youre powerfully built enough, find where he lives, flatten some empty red bull cans and tie them to the spokes of his bike, so they make an annoying 'F-F-F-F' sound as his wheels go round.

Also sharpen some frozen sausages, and hammer them into his tyres.
