As a side note, it started to produce a few ‘What if’s”...

So, I thought, perhaps unwisely to open up another thread on this subject.

Unfortunately I believe that if WW2 had been avoided in 1939 it would have only been delayed and would have happened anyway before 1950. Possibly with more dire consequences.

Well... it saved America / NASA 20yrs of development for their space program.
( so no moon landing until 1989)...
So would the technology of today be equivalent to the turn of the century.

Many towns and cities would be very different to look at. A lot of old buildings and architecture were wiped out during that time. When you look at places which weren't bombed during that period you realise this.

Much of my family is unknown and lost due to war and yes I may not be here because of it.

What if America hadn't gotten involved in the Soviet-Afghan war, ultimately allowing the Soviets to take control. No Taliban or Al qaeda, subsequent wars or terrorist attacks? Would the Soviets taken the east peice by peice?

The meteorite that killed the dinosaurs had missed the earth or landed in the deep ocean (apparently there was only a 13% chance it would hit somewhere that would cause such a devastating extinction event)? None of us would be here.
