Another eBay Slimebag

I've been in touch with an eBay seller about a waste disposal unit he listed. I asked him if he'd prep the item for a Hermes pickup I'd arrange as a 304-mile trip to collect was out of the question. He replied, 'Yes, could do.'
So I put in a bid of £10.

Shortly afterwards he wrote this back to me...
'I want £40 for it. I can set a buy it now price for it and let you know when I do it. Or leave it to auction . There is 12 watchers on at the moment.'. A b-I-N price never appeared.

Having already bid, I said I'd keep an eye on the auction and pumped up my bids to £41.I won the item for £10 this evening, paid immediately and messaged for his details, package size/weight and email address so I could send the Hermes label. This was ignored. The next this was a notification that he'd cancelled as the item is 'out of stock or damaged.' Lying toad. He's also triggered a refund, which I don't want after this fair and square sale.

AFAIK, this behaviour drives a coach and horses through eBay policy so I've reported him with the details. Oddly, the item has gone from my purchase history. Let's see if eBay really do come down on the buyer's side.

Doh, for clarity, you bid £10 and he messaged you saying he wanted £40, You should have just sent that message straight to ebay and NOT bid at all.

If he wanted £40 with no BIN, tough luck, did you look at the bidding history to see if it's a brand new account that was bidding against you?

This has all the hallmarks of something you shouldn't have bothered with :-(

It's advertised as pick up only because they CBA, it says everything about them, read and learn.

It's matter of principle now. I checked him out and he's the same as me, eBay user since 2005 and 100% feedback score. The item was listed as being new and the pics showed just a tatty cardboard box and an apparently complete unit. If nothing else, I want his account to be taken away.

Nothing worse than people bidding on collection only items and expecting the seller to wrap the item for them, hang around for the courier and then end up with no PayPal protection as they didn’t arrange the courier. All for the sake of £8.

His mistake was agreeing to it, but with 12 viewers he clearly thought he was going to get to £40. Going after him is totally petty and makes you look like the slimeball.

So you bid on something, asked the seller to deviate from the conditions of the sale they specified and then got refunded when the seller didn't want to satisfy your whims? And he's the bad guy?

He probably had alarm bells ringing and thought you'd end up being a pain in the arse to deal with, for some reason.

I mean he is a dick for agreeing to something if he didn't plan on sticking to it but in reality you really should let it go. You're not out any money, he hasn't stolen from you and in reality he really hasn't even inconvenienced you a great deal other than mildly annoying you. If someone agrees to something then they should stick to it, but it just isn't a big deal really, is it? At 66 do you really wanna waste your time and energy on something you aren't going to get the results you want from it? Just let it go

I always advertise stuff with BUYER COLLECTION ONLY, DO NOT ASK ME TO PACK OR SHIP THIS ITEM.

Yet people still get in touch asking if I'll wrap a bicycle or a set of car wheels for courier collection! Recently had an enquiry from Poland about whether I'd ship a 22kg amplifier...

I don't think it's up to you to monitor my eBay-ing. I've had a lot of 'collection only' sellers who've packed things for collection, I simply don't ask for stupidly big/heavy/fragile things to be packed. I've done the same for outgoing things myself. This is why my 100%/above average seller records exist.

I sell a lot of stuff on e bay occasionally if something is heavy as in over 5KG it will be listed as collection only
Anyone asking me if I could just box it up and they will arrange collection are messaged back with a straight but polite no. They are also added to my blocked bidder list
There are reasons for this that you may not appreciate. I once had someone who bid on then won a DVD copying tower thing and then wanted me to pack it up I did so and his courier arrived. Then days later he opened a case on the basis it was damaged. I got the case closed down in my favour but it made me realise it isn't worth the risk.

The seller IMO has made a mistake and then chosen to not bother doing something that may involve him in
