What is the actual job/skillset? Say for roulette, monitoring the bets, spinning the ball. Is it your job to look out for cheating, or is that dealt with by other people?
Good first question.Quite a varied skill set I’d say.
You’ve got to be incredibly thick skinned as you’ll get constant abuse and intimidation from losing punters.
You need fantastic mental arithmetic skills, great customer service, a calm head under pressure, really good dexterity of your hands / fingers, you need to be able to multi-task lots, (doing the math on a call bet whilst calling out that bet, whilst placing ‘place bets’ from a few other customers, whilst placing neighbour bets whilst watching the table, listening to the sound of the ball and calling “no more bets thank you”).
You need to be able to very quickly put your mistakes behind you and keep your concentration levels really high for several hours at a time all whilst remembering strict table procedures.

What is the biggest meltdown you've seen when someone has lost a big amount?
I had a couple on my table. They’d just had a large payout from an industrial accident. They couldn’t hit a bean.Despite several hints from me that it just wasn’t their night, they carried out playing.
I took the lot off them. They burst into tears them vomited on my layout.
I’ve seen several fights, (especially in the Poker Room), and punters pulling the roulette wheel from the table.
Man, I miss the casino…
Did you ever over pay anyone on the BJ table? There used to be a dealer in a London Casio that, on occasion, would put a high value chip under my stack of normal winning chips. Happened too often to be an error. I used to tip him some of it back after a while as I figured that was his plan but surprised he wouldn’t have been caught.

Is it all fixed (beyond the basic maths % that is) ?
Is there one born every week?
What is the pay like?
Do people tip you £1000 chips at the end of a good evening?
How do you rate the Casino girls on the PH'Ometer?

Yes, but only by pre-determined winning percentages for the House.
For example, there’s 37 numbers on a roulette table, but you only get paid out 35-1. There’s no secret buttons or magnets, although a decent Croupier can hit or miss certain sections with a respectable amount of accuracy. A really, really good Croupier can even stack a deck, (poker, blackjack, punto banco), either in favour of the House or in favour of the punter, which probably explains why so many places have automated shuffling machines now, which personally I don’t like.

Ha, I wish !
I left before tipping became officially accepted in UK casinos. Even though now gratuities are now legally accepted, the Management take by far the biggest slice.
However, whilst I was in the business there were ways to earn ‘gratuities’ from punters.
How do I rate casino girls?
10/10. So much so I married one. We’ve been together for 17 years and married for nearly 15 years.

Are casino's owned by organised crime bosses as a front to launder their dirty money?
In some overseas lands, almost certainly. It would be a great way to wash cash.In the UK, no. They’re all owned by (mainly) large corporations. Mind you, sometimes there isn’t much difference between an OCG boss and a CEO anyway.
