My hermes - have i just been unlucky?
Discussion
I buy and sell a bit on ebay and for the last 2 or 3 years I've used myhermes. The shop is round the corner and I've never had a problem, until now.
I posted 3 parcels 2 weeks ago all at the same time. All weighed and declared correctly.
I then get an email from them saying two parcels have been been flagged as being under weighed and underpaid. They said I declared one as weighing nothing (0kg) and the other one as weighing 100g. Both were properly declared as being 2kgs and 5kgs.
Anyway they asked for more money and I said no. After a lot of emails to them I eventually get an email from their executive team saying there has been an error and they are urgently looking into it. That was a week ago. The ebay buyers are going mad at this point.
So very reluctantly I paid the surcharge. And still nothing has happened. The parcels were last scanned into the depot 2 weeks ago the day after I sent them.
The third parcel they did actually try and deliver. But because they didn't leave a note on any occasion the customer wasn't in and now they said they are sending the parcel back to me. Their executive team have said they have Escalated this and have asked me for a description of what the box looks like to try and find it. This is despite the item apparently having a tracking number. The last update in their system was 2 weeks ago saying we are sending it back to you.
Basically it all sounds a mess and I'm going to end up shafted and out of pocket. I actually upgraded my LinkedIn today and sent their ceo a message telling him how awful this all is.
But I'm not sure what to do from here.
Hope for the best and wait ?
Refund my customers now? Sods law I do that and the items get delivered shortly afterwards.
Do a charge back via Mastercard?
Any thoughts? Has anyone else had recent problems with them?

Hermes are an absolute shower of s
t, they have tried to pull the overweight scam several times on me and have lost valuable parcels leaving me to jump through hoops to try and claim from their insurance, I'd rather hand deliver a parcel to the other end of the country than use them again.

I used Hermes for years...until I discovered UPS. About the same price & if I drop off at the shop at a reasonable time the parcel is usually there next day.
I haven’t had much issue with Hermes but UPS charged me saying a parcel was too long when it wasn’t until they crushed the box to make it too long… The only courier I haven’t had an issue with to date is DPD. At least City Link went out of business. Edited by colin79666 on Wednesday 6th October 16:08

Wait until something goes wrong with UPS. They are all absolutely useless once they lose track of something. Took me over 6 months to resolve a lost parcel with UPS. Sounds like the OP has been unlucky. Like them I've used Hermes a lot and haven't had any more problems than I have with the rest of them.

UPS are a complete bunch of clowns too. Delivered a very expensive item I was expecting to some random address, double charged me in import fees and were, in every way possible, completely useless in resolving the matter. Only the threat of writing to their CEO got things sorted.
It's long past time that courier companies were regulated, and regulated heavily at that.

I think Hermes are a brilliant company, but only for the hilarity of "attempted" deliveries, for the need to send or received a parcel they are shocking.
My experience includes a parcel for us in the tree, needed a big long stick to get it out. A parcel I sent took 16 weeks to reach the recipient, took ages for their insurance to pay out, but then they paid out 3 times! Unfortunately Next use Hermes in our area, the best yet was a large order being put in our black bin, which was at the end of our drive, on bin day .... Next quickly resent!
The rest of the 75% of the time they are OK at best.
