I've avoided slippers all my adult life. I seem to remember having some novelty ones as a kid but with time and counseling I've managed to put that all behind me.
However, we've just got dogs back in the house for the first time in a while and I'm getting fed up with getting soggy socks from drips from the dog bowl and wet paw marks from when they've been down the garden. So, I'm very reluctantly considering getting some slippers. Bear in mind my opinion on slippers has always been that they are a sign of giving up and one step away from sitting next to the sunny window quietly dribbling from both mouth and penis.
Now I've had a brief Google and my worst fears have been confirmed, it's a sea of moccasin, fluffy wool, and tartan. Surely the Pistonhead massive of CEO's and directors can't all be dominating the stairs whilst wearing a pair of these?
So what are you wearing around the house?

I was of the same opinion as you on slippers. However, I had to get some for use when working from home as I kept getting cold feet during winter.
The most contemporary slippers I could find were the Mahabis Curve slippers and they look quite nice. At about £100 though, they're quite expensive for slippers! Made out of real wool though...

I had moccasins at prep school back in the 80s (slippers were compulsory but these were a way of avoiding the old man look). I didn’t them own any more slippers until I was in my late 30s when I bought a pair of Camper Wabi slippers - they look vaguely Japanese and because they’re wool they keep my feet warm when WFH during the winter.
Remarkably I also gave in to Crocs at a similar time - only used for going outside when putting shoes on would be a faff, I refer to them as my “garden slippers”.

I wear slippers as we have a 2 zone heating system
In the house. With the thermostat being set cooler upstairs the cooler air sinks and circulates around my feet whilst warmer air downstairs drift upstairs. Having cats means that I can’t shut the living room door to stop the cooler air drifting in.
It’s an inconvenience but better than having cold feet.

I wear Birkenstock Zermatts these days much better than you traditional style. Very comfy!
