Flannel Shirts

I fancy a couple of decent flannel/plaid/lumberjack type shirts that are almost warm enough to wear over a tee shirt without needing a jacket but not quite a jacked.

Orvis and Filson make decent ones but they're pricey and Amazon is full of cheap names you've never ever heard of.

I'm more on about this sort of thing https://www.orvis.co.uk/p/the-perfect-flannel-shir... than something like a McNair shirt both in thickness and cost.

Anyone have any pointers on where to look please?

I was looking for similar a short while ago, I nearly (and still might) got something from here, merino wool flannel shirts. Ironically I bought a couple of McNair plasmadrys but as you say they are a bit spendy, though very high quality.

I feel a bit of a fraud using it on a five year old shirt I’ve ripped, but they send an equivalent new shirt back!

Here's a cheap name you've never heard of, Brave Soul. Bought a few of them from Amazon.

Well made, comfy, cheap, hard wearing so far.

Only negative I would state is the colours faded after a few washes then settled. Not terrible, actually quite a fetching vintage look but be aware if not to your taste.

Try m and s - I live in flannel shirts ( brushed cotton) as they are warm and yuu can put your phone in the pocket ! Marks and Spencer’s seem to outlast other brands in my experience

Carhartt do some great stuff. Buy a size down from their main range or actual size if from their WIP range.

I also picked one up from Triumph (motorcycles) but only because it was at a reduced price.
