Whos having a lean Christmas this year?

Don't buy for many people but have set a limit as it got out of hand one year when some people went over the top and you felt obliged to match.
First year in first house so won't buy a tree until after Christmas for next year. Christmas dinner will be over Dad's with brother so nice and simple. I get the side meats, brother gets the desserts, Dad gets and cooks the turkey. Will be a simple one but almost always has been.

Definitely will be trying to cut back a bit.
Nothing too drastic, but will be trying not to buy food that doesn't get eaten nor single-use crap like decorations and candles. Kids have been told to expect a reduction in shiny-wrapped stuff too (will also try to cut back on shiny wrapping!)

There will be no Xmas ham this year and It will be missed, probably replace with a small loin of bacon with the glaze (mustard and honey) so the belt is being tightened a little. I'd love a goose for the main event, proper expensive, could be an salt aged rib of beef, so no complaints there. Gifts will be favourite bottles.

We don't do Christmas here at JS Towers so never have anything but a lean one.
A few years ago we hit a new Crimbo is just another day low and absolutely horrified our God-Bothering neighbours in the process because me and JS Junior spent Christmas afternoon and early evening in the garage drinking beer and fitting a new 'diff in one of the Jags.
This year we'll spend the day with the kids and grandkids and give the kids a stack of cash and presents and money to the grandkids. Home in the evening, light the fire and open a reasonably agreeable bottle of Red.
That's it. Sorted for another year.

God bless you both.My Mum died in the early hours of Boxing Day 2012 after we'd sat by her hospital bed for five nights so some remote controlled LED candles and Christmas cards on display are more than enough festive nonsense for us. No tree, no decorations; just a glass raised to absent family and friends.
We go to town on pressies for each other but set a limit of £15 a head for the rest of the family and the four dogs they have each get something intensely noisy and annoying 'cos we're like that...
Each year we say we're going to cut back on food and drink. Each year we never do so a 'semi-lean' Christmas for us.

God bless you both.Lost the MiL Boxing Day last year so Christmas was rather a let down (Christmas day was too).
This year I intend to make sure the kids have a much better one so won't cut down as such, certainly be will be the usual fry up breakfast and full works dinner.... We are going to buy fewer presents and want them to have to give away some of their toys to charity as we are concerned they may become too materialistic.

We simply buy too much every single year, especially chocolate and nibbles.
