Christmas lights

So, who's put theirs up?

We live in a cul-de-sac with 14 houses in it and 5 already have an indoor tree and/or outside lights up and switched on.

I'm not being bah humbug or anything but it's not even December! And I'll be putting ours up but not until the first weekend in December at the earliest.

No Christmas lights here yet not till second weekend in December. I did notice nearly everyone in the supermarket this morning bought one of those tins of chocolates we only buy at Christmas though so it must be Christmas soon.

My wife put our indoor trees up yesterday because she's a simpleton.

I like outside lights, brightens up wintery evenings.

I object to inside too early because I get fed up with them.

Ours are going up this weekend (inside and out)

Normally its December 1st onwards but were doing it a few days early this year.

Lots up already though and im actually looking forward to dressing the trees / house / outside (for a change)

She who must be obeyed has tentatively suggested this Sunday is the day she'll start squealing like an excitable toddler at 5am ahead of the big Christmas tree erecting process. I say tentatively but in reality she's been going on about it since June, has written it on the calendar and has the small children on her side and reminding me every day. "Daddy, can we put the tree up. Mummy says we can" Go tell your mother it's August and to take off the comedy raindeer antlers whilst you're at it. So yes, this weekend... though I fear it's utter futile as I've a 14 month old and she'll have it pulled back down within seconds which I'm all for but seemingly no, we've to tell her to leave it alone. Shame the wife won't listen to her own advice.

Is it anti green to have Xmas lights these days. All that carbon to have lights flickering for 6 weeks.

Also plenty in U.K. celebrate thanks giving as their main Xmas.

Also given nearly everyone didn’t have a family Xmas in 2020 at Xmas they are getting it in this year properly.

Not council at all - I call council those who don’t bother or last minute it.

I'd go further and say adults getting over-excited about Christmas is also Council.

Making a big deal out of the festive season is fair enough if you've got kids IMO or believe the religious aspect (other deities may be available), but grown men and women (other genders may be available) prancing around in 'comedy' Christmas jumpers, wearing ridiculous antlers etc. for no other reason than "it's Christmas, innit"?

I put lights up in February round the window frames and have been having them on since then. Not because it's Christmas but because it makes the place look more cheerful. Not full on red, purple and blue raver lights that people have round their TVs or under their cars but simple white LEDs with no flashing or patterns. (Ok, it flashes at dusk because it's solar powered and light sensoring so it kinda sts itself as the light fades.)

Seeing people you’ve not seen for a long time.
Having a good time
Having works Xmas drinks - with people you do like
The joy of giving a gift to people you love
Going out for Christmas carols in the church
The fact it feels most people are happy/happier another year gone
A few days off
Board games
Early morning walks or one after a large meal
Log fire crackling away
Booze
Having Xmas parties round your or friends houses
Got to love some of those Xmas songs
Also memories of family and friends who have passed away - time to reflect.
Also a timely time to go to the graveyard to actually visit special to you graves.
Going to Boxing Day football game with dad or son

I like Christmas, I like the lights, the songs, the movies all of it. But 3rd of November is too early for me to be thinking about any of that. Got to be December at least.

I do feel like going a bit crazy this year. I already have lights to go across the house, a laser projector that puts red and green baubles on the house, lights for the front garden tree, inflatable Santa. Dont wat to go full council thread, might add a snowfall projector though

It used to be a 14 day before Christmas the dec’s went up and removed 14 days after. Of course it’s far more commercialised now and the need to switch on and get into the festive spending spirit comes earlier every year it seems,
