Xmas gift buying

I’ve only bought a few small bits so far but just find the whole thing too stressful and unnecessary.
I’ve also spent a lot in some years and just got mostly rubbish ish stuff in return .
Last year I spent about 220 quick on some rare Crystal which has just stayed out of sight in a cupboard .loosing interest with it all .so I need to buy all the stuff next week and don’t know where to begin without spending more than planned

So basically what you are saying is you would prefer not to buy loads of stuff to give to other people that makes retailers very happy ?
Think of the retailers think of the staff think of your responsibility towards them
Then just buy as little as you want toi

I don’t know what I’m going on about really.just seem to have scammed myself a lot over the years like close relatives in example who are a lot wealthier than me and I would give the better gifts and get things back I didn’t want and never since even used once

Was the gift something the recipient had specifically requested?

It's not exactly something you can take for a walk round the park; are you sure it doesn't give them pleasure when they're alone and enjoy looking at it?

I find the whole buying, giving and getting presents thing tedious, stressful and such a waste of money.

I'd rather the money was spent on having a fine time with friends and family.

Lots of expensive tat swapped and not really needed.

Ugh, my Mrs is terrible. When growing up I didn't come from a particularly well-off household so me and my Mum have always had a thing where we don't buy things for each other for Christmas or Birthdays, always just worked together the rest of the year to sort the important stuff instead.

My Mrs on the other hand believes its the law to buy gifts. Insists that we must buy a gift for my Mum, Cue lots of her nagging me about my Mum not buying me anything AGAIN this year (Mrs always gets one back)...30th Birthday nag was the worst. We have the same conversation every year, doesn't seem to go in, she just can't grasp it.

I do see a lot more people, especially since Covid, that aren't bothering with gifts though and are just spending the time together instead. I don't really have a need for much these days as I'm fortunate enough that apart from a private jet and new life somewhere sunny I just buy it if I really want it. The gifts of socks and deodarant, whilst appreciated, just get stuffed under the stairs, usually then re-gifted at some point.

I hate the whole present buying millarke. Christmas comes at a bad time for me, November being an expensive month as everything come up for renewal, car insurance, tax, service, caravan storage, insurance & service, house insurance etc etc..

Why couldn't Jesus have been born in April? At least then all the Inns would have had vacancies for his mum and dad.

Now my son is getting into his late teens Im warming to the idea of going on holiday over Christmas to get away from it all.

If you get on with family them surely everyone mucks in?

We don't do adult presents (apart from couples) so it's just food/crackers, no?

I'm one of the few who enjoy buying presents for others. I find the process quite exciting, although I should probably preface that by saying I don't have a massive list of people I buy for, so I can afford to be a little extravagant and also I like spoiling them.

However, the sort of gifts suggested by the OP wouldn't really feature in my shopping basket.

Presents don't have to cost very much at all, a holiday will be though!

It's not the cost or hassle of getting presents. You should be getting things for the individual - their likes and preferences, things you know they like.

You are missing a trick here OP.

You know all those presents you say you don't want, well you keep them in their wrappers or boxes, safely packed away in the loft, keep a record of who bought them for you, and you there you have next years Xmas presents.

Just make sure you read the list of who they came from before you gift them on.

Good advice and I know someone who does it the same year but people can work it out sometimes then it gets bit awkward.better to keep it new and sealed then sell eventually. I remember once years ago getting some really naff water pistol thing when I was about 19.I didn’t know what to thing is was so random and utterly useless it then followed by a speech that I was ungrateful (perhaps said person wasn’t particularly wealthy at the time a bit like me now )
