As per the title - can anyone recommend? Budget c.£100 and want an ankle boot rather than the trainer type. I don't really want the traditional leather, more the technical fabric type.

Thank you

Phil.

Can’t go wrong with a Salomon for the money. Very durable and comfortable.

You will need to try the various recommendations on to see which ones fit you the best.

My preferred walking boot is a pair of Keen Targhee III.

Buy whichever fits the best in your budget and requirements.
The brand means bugger all if they give you blisters.

Salomon come up very narrow. Best thing is a proper shop and try them on. Like a lot of folks I've bought a ,ot of stuff online and have had to send things back. Footwear especially.

Gris sport are pretty good

Thanks for the replies. Got a Cotswold Outdoor near me and will try before I buy. Haven’t owned a pair before so all pointers gratefully received

Get to a proper walking boot shop

The best ones will be the ones that fit you, not someone on an Internet forum.

Also remember that socks are as important as the footwear

Once I've found a brand that suits I stick with it, often end of line can be had cheaply over the Internet.

My current go to are Merrell for summer & light winter. Comfortable (for me) out of the box. I probably buy a new pair each yr, if I see a bargain I'll buy and keep on the shelf until required.

I have Meindl and Mrs Torque has Salomon; we both tried both (and other makes) at Cotswold and could not fault their service. We would not buy anywhere else.

Brand is irrelevant, it’s whichever boot is most comfortable for your feet.

I think there is a large thread on ph about walking boots. My search facility won't work for me at the moment.
Scrump old chap could you find it please?

Cotswold often do price matching + 10% so have a look on line once you have chosen. I bought my Salmon Quest GTX 4 from there, they were £120 online and they did them for £108

I got some Merrel moab 2 gtx mid’s about a year ago, really love them and paid about £100. Super comfy and I’m usually the last one to get wet feet on walks biggrin Only seems to be long wet grass or deep water that gets them.

Had to go up a size from normal - I’m usually 8 or 8.5 but 9 in the merrel’s.

Salomon offer a wide fitting nowadays:

But agree it’s best to try them on. Often the online retailers offer a free return service.

Brasher work well for me. Like OP, I wear shoes not ankle boots.

My son wore these for his Ten Tors and DofE on the recommendation of the local independent outdoor retailer (BCH Camping) : Scarpa Terra GTX.

He absolutely despises traditional leather boots, but these were so comfortable (almost no breaking in) and performed so well, he's converted. Kept his feet warm, dry and comfortable when lots of his mates boots were letting them down. generally seem to be well reviewed too.

As has been said, you need to try them on, what others find good isn't really much use to you. Make sure you tell them the kind of walking you plan on doing.

I’ve had 3 pairs of these (but the shoe version) none have lasted more than 18 months before the sole starts to fall off
