Letter postal question

Recieved a letter yesterday dated 27th December 2021 from TV licensing and it got me wondering - Would this automatically be printed out and then posted on the next working day which would of been the 29th December?

Or would it be posted out on the 27th? Do they work bank holidays?

Also, with these digital postal marks, there’s no way of telling anymore whether it was sent via 1st or 2nd so in typical TV licensing fashion, do they send letters out via 1st or 2nd class?

Why does it matter? Its not a speeding ticket with a 14 day deadline for receipt.

The date is printed by the franking machine, so is the date it is actually printed and franked.

When it is posted is then down to when the post office collect (I'm assuming they don't send the office boy to the letter box), so that could be anytime they like.

I suspect nothing is 1st class as such, as it's all treated in bulk and just goes through the RM systems

Makes sense! Just noted there was no date on the envelope of the letter I received - only the letter inside was dated - instead there was a code ‘C9 10002’ on the envelope which according to Royal Mail actually highlights that the majority of the handling was done by another service!

The letter would be from Communisis Postal Ltd who handle all the postal operations of TV Licensing under the guise of their branding. It certainly wouldn't have been franked by a human and handed over to a Royal Mail van driver, just printed in bulk and fed into the RM system for delivery only. The 27th date was probably allocated automatically with no regard to bank holidays.
