We took my wife’s engagement ring into a local jewellers earlier this week, needs a one size up enlargement. It’s a very narrow band ring. We were told that the ring can be enlarged but it will need to be cut and some gold added for enlargement. So far so obvious, then came the shock, the price will be £180, my face must have caught his eye as he explained that the price of gold is so high at the moment. It must be super high as the amount of gold required amounts to tiny tiny amount of weight.
Tried another jewellers, no problem we can heat that up and stretch it up to that one size up.
That did and it fits perfectly now, all for £30!!!!

The first jewellers shop has now lost a customer for life. Why do they try and rob people I have no idea, well I have it’s because they are ste at the work/ job.
Looked at the gold price, it is high but still below the highest level over twelve months.

They didn't try to rob you.

One suggested a professional job with a proper price the other a botch job with a cheap price. Rather like welding an exhaust. biggrin

Yep, I wonder if the cheap job will make your ring weak (ooh matron) and when the finger gets hot and expands in summer, there's a greater risk of the ring being damaged in some way?

Anyway…

Half a size is possible but still not recommended.
A full size up is a no no. Weakness and distortion.

Cowboy jewellers imo.

You get what you pay for.

I may know what I’m talking about.

Or put your wife's fingers on a diet?

No idea how to do that but the other way round is a doddle. SWMBO asked me how to get her boobs bigger nd I told her to wife her cleavage with loo paper. She asked if it'd work and I said it has on your arse.

I wish that I had asked in here before now. Could cost me having to buy a new ring after all !
