So it turns out Petrus isn’t immortal after all - I’m fine with it, I’ll miss not seeing my son growing up, being an old codger on the beach with an ice cream and all that - but weirdly recently wrote on another thread that if my time was up I wouldn’t regret anything. I have enough time to sort a lot out, I have a life assurance policy that means my son should be set up for life - university, first house etc (it’s over $1m). The thing that does upset me is leaving my parents behind. Any ideas? A bench seems off the mark, a tree? But where. Ideas will be welcome.

No sympathy- I’ve also got enough time to wind up the match.com thread a bit more laugh

Firstly whatever it is, don't give up. Fight. You may not buy much more time BUT every second you can spend with your kids counts.

I think just being grateful for every day you've had and every day you do have, should count for most.

I'd hope to live to be 100, however, planes, trains and automobiles, plus viruses and just good old 'fate' mean I probably won't.

So, I genuinely give thanks in my mind when I wake up and throughout the day. Being appreciative, I believe, is a good habit. It allows me to enjoy every moment for what it is, what it brings and how it makes me feel.

I don't believe this is 'woo woo' - but the number of folk I talk to or meet, who seem utterly bhy about every single facet of their lives. The fact that they are alive to moan about it seems to have gone unnoticed.

My biggest fear is to die much earlier than planned, and to leave my loved ones with the burden of sorting through the pile of crap in the shed (in their eyes, everything in there is useful and cannot be thrown away as far as I'm concerned) biggrin

I’ll try. But looks bleak. I’m going to head to Texas very soon to give Petrus Jr a big hug. He’s too young to understand but hopefully will remember the hugs.

Pushing through like mad now. But in honesty knowing what to do with the purchase is a mad decision. If I can buy it and make it lovely it’s an asset - if I just get to buy and not do that it’s a bind left behind.

This time last year I was waiting for the results of a biopsy.

As I contemplated that the end may be round the corner, I felt a calmness and acceptance that I didn't expect.
Sorted out my Will and started planning the BIG clear out but then got the all clear.

You have my best wishes.

I hear some people are more concerned about their browsing history than their shed/garage/loft. biggrin

Yes. Just sorting the will. It’s kinda simple but there’s a few people who’ve touched my life I’d like to have a holiday on me. I’m calm too - I’d always wondered what was after this life anyway. I’m reaching for a mis diagnosis too!

Very sorry to hear this. Clearly it’s none of my/our business if you prefer not to say, but what’s happened?

I'm terribly sorry to hear that. I've pondered my own mortality recently also (for different reasons I suspect). I'm rooting for a misdiagnosis (of whatever it is) for you also.

To answer your question, why not ask your folks?

They don’t know. I don’t want them to.

Today has been good though - I’ve sorted my will and feel comfortable with the decisions I’ve made, and managed to get a copy of my life assurance policy and the forms that could be required.

Now I’ve come away for a long weekend where the air is pure, sunsets beautiful and no one knows me.

I won't pretend to know what you're staring down the barrel of, but are you really sure you want your death to come as a surprise to your family?
