Celebrating a 50th Birthday
Discussion
How did you celebrate yours?
It's my 50th in a few weeks. No idea what I want but everyone is asking. I've never been one to celebrate birthdays as I'm very uncomfortable with people buying me anything, I just don't like it. I buy mysellf anything I want so why should others have to put their hand in their pocket just because I've been alive another year?
Must be a reflection of my age that I have decided I want certain plants and a particular tree for my garden for my birthday. It's something I want for my garden anyway so may as well incorporate it into a gift.
So whilst some folk have massive parties, special holidays, jewellery etc, I'll be planting a tree in my garden!!

Something for your car/cars is the obvious answer on a site for people like us. It's my 50th in a few weeks. No idea what I want but everyone is asking. Alcatraz
We did the holiday thing as I can't stand parties.
Obviously went to loads of other places as well...Yosemite, Death Valley, Hoover Dam, helicopter over the Grand Canyon, Vegas, but whenever the holiday gets mentioned the wife always say's that we went to Alcatraz for my 50th birthday.

Was vaguely thinking about a big party but covid stuffed that. I'm not sure I'm not glad TBH!
I didn't really do anything for my 40th either, although some friends had a spare couple of rooms in their holiday villa so we had a weekend in Ibiza. Had the kids in tow though, 5 month old twins...

It's my 50th this year. I'm going to Nice for r the weekend with a day at the classic Monaco GP. Open invite to my friends to join us, but at their expense not mine. It should be a nice relaxing way to ease in to those later years.
I didn't want a party, I think there is too much pressure with a party.

When I turned 50 I noticed a poster outside a church hall that informed me i was now entitled to attend their drop in afternoon tea and biscuit events for the elderly. I also learned I had become of age to take advantage of Saga offers.
So I cashed in some Norwich Union shares I had, took out an interest only loan, and bought my first Caterham.

I'm not 50 yet but Mrs QQ is slightly ahead of me so I had some surprises planned for her. I had designed her engagement ring and designed a new ruby and diamond ring which slotted right next to it. The design was beautifully brought to life by a fellow PHer and it's on his thread. We went to Paris for a mini break with our youngest (the middle and eldest were already at university), and had dinner at the Eiffel Tower.
I'm not sure what I'll get for my 50th when in it arrives but as a generalisation, I hate my birthdays. I'm happy to make fuss and celebrate everyone else's, but I want mine to remain unnoticed because all it does is bring back horrible memories I'd rather not remember.
