Stuff you have found in your house

Whilst moving into a new home on the late '90s, I found a cardboard tube with an address label on it, lodged behind the hot water tank. I was intrigued as the address wasn't the one we were in. I happened to know that the address on it was a close friend of the now-deceased former owner of the place we were moving into. Curiosity got the better of me and I tipped out the tubes contents - it was a slightly used penis vacuum enlarger! I washed my hands very soon after...

Slightly used?! Interesting. How can one tell? Did it have an odometer?Updating our fireplace led to digging the old hearth out. Well, I say hearth, but it turned out to be a skim of mortar over a load of rubble and site rubbish. In among said site rubbish were 9 (structural!) milk bottles from the local dairy, the remains of a newspaper from 7th July 1962, numerous match boxes and fag packets, a historic Kit-Kat wrapper, grease proof paper sandwich and pie bags, a Kiplings pie box and foil pie cases… you get the picture. We kept the milk bottles.

In the next house which I bought furnished they left their porn stash under the bed. Guess they couldn’t take it with them as they were emigrating.
It's not the same somehow, porn available at the click of a mouse or 100 of hours of
filth on a memory stick, the porn stash was a hundredweight of well thumbed copies
of Mayfair, Fiesta, Razzle, Men Only, Health and Efficiency, Penthouse, collected and
guarded fiercely over the years.
When we had to clear my folks house out after Mum passed away, my brother and his wife were doing god alone knows what but the misses and i were clearing their bedroom wardrobe.
Nestled on top and right at the back were two plastic carrier bags.
Bag 1 contained my dad's cap from when he was an electrical engineering officer in the Merchant Navy
Bag 2 contained....and this is no word of a lie....Lederhosen. Specifically, Lederhosen that i remember wearing as a child. Now my brother is 5 years older than me and he seems to recall he was about 7, so that makes me 2 at the time. That was over 50 years ago and yet they still kept it.
Why, i have zero idea because there was other stuff they could have kept and didnt.

Found a decent sized rug, rolled up in the corner in one of the top floor rooms when we first moved into our current house. It sort of matched the colours in the drawing room and we didn't have anything else so we thought we'd use it temporarily. 11 years on, it's still there... Not just that, but in that time we found out that it had belonged to the father of not one of the previous owners but the owners before them!
Horseshoes, loads of them, in the outbuildings
An empty WW2 shell of some description
Various empty boxes with military style markings on them
A 140 year old, carved wooden door which had been removed from the main house, covered in plywood, then chucked in a stable converted into a garage
A load of pretty solid cloches in a barn
A rusting, Victorian, cast iron, coal fired boiler and a load of coal down in the cellar
These are just a small selection!

Bought a house and the deal was I would clear the house as the bloke was disabled and going into smaller sheltered accommodation. He left thousands of family photos including some nudes of his ex wife and a good sex guide book. Also left 150-300 records to which is about the only thing I've kept. Everything else was yellow and stunk from cigarettes.
My house is only 21 years old so I don’t think I’ll be finding much, although I did find a chisel in the loft under the insulation, which was a bonus as I didn’t have a 1/4 inch chisel.
In my parents house, we’ll garden. About 30 feet of Armco barrier and a coffin sized (and shape) block of concrete. It’s still there to this day, and intact, I didn’t even make an impact on it with a sledgehammer!
