For several days now early in the morning (6:30am today), We’ve had recorded messages claiming to be from Amazon warning me of unusual activity on my account. My elderly parents worry when they get these calls and get distressed thinking they are legitimate.

Blocking these numbers makes no difference as they just use a new number, and can’t block withheld numbers as the doctors usually call from a withheld number.

With modern technology why is it so hard to find and prosecute those behind these calls, especially the ones that target the elderly.

All these scammers are doing is pushing us quicker to the end of landlines. VOIP and VOLTE has the technology to automatically recognise spoofed numbers whereas landlines are tied to legacy tech that makes it impossible, relying on humans to log spam calls which just turns it into a game of whack-a-mole.

VOIP is one of the things making it so easy for this to happen, ironically. Number spoofing is very easy with it.

OP your parents can get a phone which filters these robocalls out, plays a message and requires a caller to identify themselves and press a key before it will ring.

Thanks, I will look into those, just a pity the person who pays for the phone also has to pay to stop intrusive calls especially from scammers
