Watch out there's a Humphrey about

At lunch yesterday, seven of us with ages spread from 40 to over 70. the drinks came with red and white stripy straws and I was the only one who remembered Humphrey.

There's plenty of evidence on the internet that he existed, but is it really that rare that people don't remember what happened in the 70s?

My late dog was called Humphrey, I doubt you are referencing him, so what or who is this "Humphrey"?

I'm 50, Mrs Mogsmex is 49 we grew up within 25 miles of each other in Essex


she has no idea or recollection of Humphrey or any of the milk marketting at the time, I vivdly remmber the tv ads, the straws (sticking them in your mates drinks at school) and a badge or two

she had no idea at all what I was on about when the subject cropped up a few years ago !

I remember the phrase but googled it to refresh my memory.

First hit is an advert featuring Muhammed Ali - so I don't think it's regional!!

Yes, a couple of badges and a mug too.

The mug didn't last long as far as I remember and was replaced by a West Ham one that came with an Easter egg.

We’re both early 50s and remember the TV ads.

I've noticed a massive increase in the playing of 80s music in shops and the like recently and I was thinking to myself that the 80s now are like our version on the 60s

Until I remembered that the 80s was 40 years ago so it's actually like our version of the 40s.

Thinking about the age thing the other day and putting my 26 year old car in context.

Would be like driving a 1958 car in 1984 when I passed my test.

My class teacher in the 80s was a Mr Humphreys and he had the stickers plastered around his classroom. Great bloke.

My daughter has called her hamster "Humphrey" I had forgotten the saying, will have to tell her to google it.

im 48 cambs/suffolk border and remember the humphrey and cryril catchphrases but couldn't have told you what it was advertising
