Things we should have figured out by now

With the ever increasingly impressive and difficult things we as the humans have figured out, what things really should be sorted by now?
Serious : Cancer. Seriously,.. do one.
Annoying : Phone signal. How can we make a rocket fly to Mars and send back pictures and data yet I cant walk from one side of the house to the other without my signal dissapearing?

The ideal that we still need a 37.5 hour 5 day work week.

Taxes, why so many, scrap the lot and have a higher income tax, think how much admin that would save every single council, government department, person in the land?
Council tax - you pay per person for every single other service so if I want to live in a big Manor House as 1 person why should I pay more than skuzzy sally and her 17 children?
Privatising things that have no rivals, so they just get away with price rises and crap service, see trains, Broadband(lots of places like me can only have BT for the first 2 years) water companies, etc

Why oh why can't somebody design hinge attachments that last longer than a few months before one side or the other breaks loose and results in a guillotine action trapping the old crown jewels whenever one leans to one side to wipe one's bum?
I'm not even a large fellow FFS.

Beyond tax, the entire financial system of government. We seem able to fund plenty of utter nonsense but can't fund critical services.
Simple interface to share anything from one electronic device to another. Screen share, file share etc.
Personal hygiene. Soap is cheap. Toothpaste likewise.

We've forgotten more than we know.

Weather forecasting - yeah it's pretty good (in the UK, for the next 24 hours) but it's not exactly an exact science and certainly in more out of the way places, things still take people by suprise.
Tyres - they are basically still bits of reinforced rubber filled with air, and regularly puncture and get damaged.
Flooding defences? Not something I know much about but it seems that anything which works properly ends up having side effects somewhere else.
