Do any decent companies use TV advertising
Discussion
Talking this over with a friend during a beer.
Other than car companies can you name a decent honest company that uses advertising in a way that's not just make up for a poor quality product/service? Presenting their best image which their product does not deliver.
Phone companies - terrible
Confectionary companies - purveys of sugary garbage
Fast food companies - terrible product made to a minimum cost
Soft drinks compainies - sugary water that's not doing your heath any good.
Payday loans at 4 million percent APR
Banks - terrible charges, low interest, looking to scalp at every oportunity.
There must be some out there but it seems like advertising is now just to change the perception of what a company is really like rather than promote a particular service.
Is it that in order to afford TV advetising you need to be a terrible company raking in millions?
Or perhaps I might just get getting old and grumpier.

I think that’s an interesting point and I see why you make it. It has taken me a few minutes to think of some counter suggestions.
I was pleasantly surprised with Oak Furniture Land a year or two back. We had just rejected a delivery from John Lewis after waiting months for a coffee table. OFL had a selection of tables at half the price and delivered quickly. Not what I expected from their silly adverts.
And then, of course, there’s Guinness ….

A friend of mine made a very good point recently, the adverts were better back then because there were so few places for them. Most of us watched the Beeb, were brought up with it so knew no better, then ITV C4 and the satellite generation came along so that talent in making adverts was stretched so thinly, and probably went elsewhere.
Adverts fascinate me, the totally warped way these cretinous people try and sell you life and products. The best ones were things like Always, really in line skating, really? Mobile phones is unreal, yes I can live my entire life for and through this piece of slave labour produced junk. Yet drive past a bus stop and see what they all do, heads bowed praying to Apple and Samsung, it effing works.
Problem is for a large number of people it works, the current "your whatever, your way" marketing trend, you can literally see it when you drive, shop, do anything online, it feeds into weak peoples minds and feeds their egos and is a product of social media and that generation of people now getting into marketing.
The endless trope of interracial everything, banks cannot have an advert without a pregnant women in it, blokes with beards driving cars with supermodels as a passenger or vice versa, in empty cities, groups of happy men betting, have you ever ever seen that? Same sex couples in adverts, have you any idea how many people of a certain age that probably switches off not on? You would rather make an advert to virtue signal than one that appeals to potentially more customers? I find it incredulous how advertising works.
And don't get started on radio, why am I forced to listen to terms and conditions being read out, I have literally never thought of a company locally that advertises on a radio, so just stop it.

frankly unable to work out what the OP is driving at
what nihilistic subterfuge is cadbury up to by advertising its tasty creme eggs ?
it's TV advertising, it don't require a moralistic code, or even 100% honesty.
the old actor fella says providing for your own funeral is a way of easing the
financial burden when the time comes, OK the details might be a bit more
complex once you sign up, but it's essentially a good idea, why not advertise
such a service ?

To afford expensive (i.e. premium channel advertising) I think the model must be either:
- cheap product of dodgy provenance with lots of margin
- expensive product but with lots of margin
- Shark
- Dyson
- Oral-B toothbrushes
- premium toothpaste
- Apple
- M&S
I worked for a cigar company. The ads were designed to be funny (Hamlet) and suggest a fun outcome. Rab C Nesbitt photo booth etc. I have vhs copies of them that marketing gave us.
Image was king back then. In blind tests our cigars never came out top as a smoke but the brand image made them top sellers.
I particularly liked the Mannikin ones......especially the out-takes we got to see.
I have a Manikin wall ad on my garage wall. Framed/ glass with a blonde in animal skin bikini riding on Pegasus...Pegasus was the main logo picture and I have a small statue presented on my retirement. No blonde though.
OK tobacco industry so not PC now but back then....
