Overcharging ice cream man? What to do?

Last Sunday, myself and Mrs WR decided to go a walk in a local well known beauty spot on the outskirts of Manchester,

As we both fancied an ice cream as it was a warm day I bought one for £3.00 and one for £2.40, I tendered a ten pound note and the bloke in the van said £5.90 without any hint of charm,

I pocketed the change and walked away, then twenty seconds later I twigged that he had overcharged me .50p.

I was going to let it go, as it was only .50p, but I changed my mind, went back and said "Hey, I've been overcharged for my ice creams"......He said he had no change but offered to give me a pound refund, without any offer of an apology.

I thought no more of it, until this afternoon, talking to two complete strangers in a cafe, a man and his wife, twenty miles away,....... without me saying anything, they happened to mention they were overcharged a couple of weeks ago by the same guy in the same location, he paid by card, it should have been £11.50, but when he went home and went to his online banking £115.00 had gone out of his bank. He has now put a claim in with his bank.

Now giving the bloke the benefit of the doubt it COULD have been a co-incidence, but I'm thinking about contacting the local trading standards,

Trading standards is probably the right course of action juat dont waffle to much on the phone and dont come across as a flake.

If it was me selling ice creams, I wouldn’t bother with 50p, it’d have to be worthwhile so I’d do 99.

There's a 99 per cent chance he's doing it to everyone. Probably trying to boost his wafer thin margin.

Our regular ice cream man was found dead in his van, covered in chocolate sauce, sprinkles and chopped nuts. Police reckon he topped himself.
