In praise of the DVLA
Discussion
I have a confession. I messed up. Actually, twice. In our house move earlier this year, I forgot to change the address on our V5s. I knew our i3 was coming up to 3 years old soon (the end of July I thought), but it wasn't until a BMW dealer called me about 'an exciting new offer', followed by a second call about our booking I'd made for an MOT. Except I hadn't, he called me by mistake. This set the wheels in motion in my head and, yes, it was in fact three years at the end of June, not July, and because I hadn't changed the V5 address, we'd received no tax reminder. Obviously since the car was now neither taxed, MOT's or insured by virtue of the first two, OH had to use mine. Job one - change V5 address online last week. Received new V5 literally the next day! Job two - SORN the car - done within 5 minutes online. job three - MOT today, before she'd even got home it was on the system and I taxed the car again online.
For a situation I thought was going to be a complete nightmare to unf
k, it was actually incredibly easy. At no point did I have to speak with anyone or spend any time in an automated telephone queueing system. All done online within a matter of minutes. The only 'computer says no' part was when I tried taxing before MOT-ing, but I get that.
