Tassle loafers yay-z or nay

What is your view on tassle loafers, of the upmarked kind (think Crocket & Jones, Alden-Edmonds), are they fuddy duddy and for old men, or can they be cool?

I am worried about the low-cut design which looks a bit like curd pumps. If you know what I mean.

They are excellent with the right outfit. A poor choice with shorts however.

Whilst I've never had a pair of tassle loafers, I personally think they look better attached to a leather piece going across the shoe like in the picture above, as opposed to just floating in the middle and looking like an afterthought.
