Stupid things your parents do or did

Inspired by this thread and my father hand painting my sisters car when she left it for him to use while she was on holiday instead of driving it anywhere.

As mentioned he also painted his kitchen ceiling with gloss paint using a 2" paintbrush.
There must be more stories to tell.

My father got together with a jobless alcoholic in 1987 and she died about 10 years ago from it age 48.
Not before she’d bled him dry, leaving him having to still work part time now and living in a council house at age 73 due to no private pension of any worth.
She also left him with their 19 year old daughter who has Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and is incapable of working. She had a baby a year ago with a bum of a boyfriend she’s no longer with…. although got pregnant again by him a few months ago. Abortion this time though.
He runs after her and the baby 24/7.
Yeah my Dad is a role model for me in absolutely what not do to with your life!

old daugher with a sprog turned up at our door one day.
Safe to say it damaged their marraige although they stayed together,
Dad was wounded and became more moody and untrusting of anyone.
Secrets and lies right enough,

Do Grandparents count?
When I was a kid I lived with them for many years, and we kept a pet Chinchilla. One evening I noticed it slumped to the side barely moving and assumed the worst - cue crying and much distress (I was about 9) Adults confirmed it wasn't looking good circle of life etc
Turns out my Grandad had given it a handful of chocolate liquors thinking it was ordinary chocolate and the little thing was just pissed out of it's tree for about two days solid.

Loving the pissed Chinchilla
I once got so battered one night that the next day i lay on a sun lounger nursing the hang over watching dad assemble some racking for the garage.
I forgot to mention, he was less than happy with me for coming home slaughtered - again - and so was in n o mood for my comments. I started to ask him a question and he shut me down immediately, so i watched and kept quiet.
I managed to smother a grin into a yawn and stifle the laugh when he realised he had spent an hour plus assembling the racking upside down

My parents went to a wedding reception one Saturday evening in their twilight years.
My mother would get drunk on a glass of sherry and my father could only manage a couple of pints so they both got driven home much the worse for wear.
We went round to see how they were the next day and my father sat there in his usual place on the settee minus his top and bottom set of false teeth.
My mother explained that he was drunk, felt sick, went upstairs to the toilet and was promptly sick down the pan. He came down minus his teeth and my mother in her drunken state went upstairs and found them sitting at the bottom of the toilet pan in his vomit.
Rather than get a pair of gloves to fish them out she thought it funny to teach him a lesson and pulled the flush and his teeth duly disappeared round the u bend, never again to munch his food..
My mother thought it was really funny. My poor father had to wait nearly 4 weeks for new teeth and when he finally got them they were a looser fit so the top set were always falling off his gums when he talked to you. He did however manage to keep that set until he passed away
I think that was the last time they ever went out together.

I was not long married and aged about 23. We had bought our first place in the same village as my folks.
Me being 23 years old means my old dad was 73!
He was always a free spirit and a nightmare when on the drink.
I gets a call from mum about 2am on a Sunday morning asking if I had dad there?
No I say. Is he out on his push bike? Yes he left home about 6.30 this evening.
Ok mum leave it with me.
I phone my eldest brother and get him out of bed. Have you seen dad tonight. Yes I ,ect him in the pub about closing time.
Was he pissed I ask.
Probably as he was singing to everyone! Brother tells me.
And you fecking left him there?
Cue me telling my oldest brother off.
In search I go into the country ,anes of Hertfordshire for a pissed up Paddy!
It took me a few hours but there he was laying half in,half out of a stream snoring his head off with blood running out of his head!
He had stopped for a pee on a farm bridge into a field with no railings a toppled over!
I dragged him out and got him and his bloody bike home.
Black and blue he was a couple of days after.
And it never stopped him doing mad stuff again.
