Renting abroad during jan and feb

Looking for advice, decided that as power bills are so high in the winter might as well go somewhere warm and not use heating in house for winter. Do not know if it is economically worthwhile as trying to find costs using Google for an 6 or8 week rental only brings up the Expedia etc sites and they do not give the option for a long rental. Concerned at the number of people who get scammed into paying up front and finding house is not theirs.
Anybody have experience of doing this?
Spain is out, even southern Spain can be cold at night
I bed flat, self catering preferably with facilities nearby

Maximum of four hour flight from UK, not Ryanair, the days of the £10 flight are over he says, I say the days of Ryanair flights were over 10 years ago.

I'm sure sure there might be other drivers for you (we all like winter sun obviously), but financially speaking, surely this won't be remotely worth while?
Assuming you want an actual house, not a hotel room, I would expect your looking £100/night absolute minimum? Lets say they do you a deal and get 2 months at £50/night - that's £3000, plus flights, hire car, insurances? Let's say that works out at £1750 a month?
When you consider that you will want to keep you house above a minimum temperature threshold for fabric protection plus your daily standing charge, it's not even like that side of things becomes 'zero' anyway.....so unless you have a 20 bedroom stately home (this is PH afterall)....then I can't imagine even the book of 'man maths' can help you justify the cost against energy bills in this case....?

If apartments in Tunisia are 800euro, then I guess there is certainly a much stronger case for it......
We've been doing this for the past three years in Portugal. Temperature during the day can be between 17 to 24 degrees, cool at night time but we've never needed the heating on. We stay in a mobile home on a campsite that has a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, gym, spa and a decent restaurant.
This year we upgraded to one of their luxury homes, 2 bed 2 bathroom, satellite tv, internet, large veranda, total cost for three people for 2 months was 1100 Euros. The previous couple of years the mobile home and hire car for the 2 months was about £1000.
It's a great time to go as the weather is fine, it isn't very busy and there are some good deals available. We've picked up cheap hotel deals in Lisbon and Seville for three nights which are great for a change out of the routine we get into after 5-6 weeks.

And the area around Estepona is fantastic - Duquesa, Sotogrande are both very close and even Gib is less than an hour away. It's my favourite area os Spain - I go around that area quite a lotI have stayed in my house in Spain over winter time for the last few years. UK property is an apartment so no need to leave any heat on whatsoever and I reckon we save about 800 - 1000kw a month in electric being in Spain at that time of the year with no heating and the water heater off in the UK.
I have a log burner in the Spanish pad that costs me €25 a week in logs at a guess. Electric no more than about the same per week. I save hundreds by being based there any month, but even more so over winter when our UK bills would be considerable if we were in the country.
That said, you are right that night times can be chilly. I rather like the contrast and the fact there is still a wintry feel to an evening but 20 degrees day time. That said, in your case I can see better options - Cyprus that has been said might be a good shout, or the Canaries.
One thing you might want to look at is somewhere where you don't need to hire a car. Hire car prices have gone bonkers since Covid and would probably be as much if not more than renting a property.

I remember staying in a place called Agua Amarga on the south east coast of Spain one November with my missus and a toddler. The weather was beautiful during the day but it was absolutely freezing in the house at night. Unbearably cold, even for me, a ginger person of Scottish extration who hates the heat. There was no heating in the place. This is about 2005 before WhatsApp and the like - we had to call the British owners to get in touch with someone local to scare up some electric fan heaters for the bedroom. The three of us still had to get in the same bed for warmth with several blankets on top, and it was still a bit uncomfortable. Won't make that mistake again.

Yep. Spanish houses are not well insulated for obvious reasons and many holiday rentals are not geared for winter temperatures at all as there is not much demand. Usually its warmer stepping outside than inside. Tiled floors, poor insulation and central heating/gas connection is a rarity there. I'd say you need to go further south...
If anyone considered renting a place there over winter the first enquiry I would make was what heating provisions were in place.
Dad and Stepmum did this every year for the first decade or so after retirement.
Their location of choice was Tunisia, can't remember what they paid but it was peanuts and they loved it.
They used to book through a local travel agent who was able to arrange sequential bookings to total the number of days they wanted to be away.
