What do you get out of it?

From the outside, as someone that knows absolutely nothing about it, it just looks like a secret little club. What's the point in it, for you?

I understand my grandfather was well involved - am I able to find out their record of membership and roles they might have held?

I doubt you are a freemason if that is your answer.

We are open to all masons from the beginning, joining masonry for business will leave you disappointed.

For me it is an instant way to make friends. I've travelled to many different parts of the UK. Contacted the local lodge (we have an app) and I've met up with other masons.

I also like the mystery and that so many false truths exist.

Yes. Head over to grand lodge website if you are not sure of the province he was involved with. If you are, then go to the province HQ, there will be a website.

If you know his mother lodge, use the "lodge finder" app and contact them directly.

We can tell you his rank, years in masonry, any interesting achievements.

Everyone has their own level of expensive.
£200 a year in fees.
£25 for dinner during a meeting.

The big cost is charitable giving. There's quite a expectation. However no direct pressure, give what you can afford to.

Does the £200 include the uniforms etc?

And are the dinners optional?

I was invited to join a few years ago but I think even then the cost was going to be way more than £200 a year. That was in addition to being expected to work for free for other masons.
