For various things?

It’ll depend if course on your circumstances and priorities but I’m interested to know what others consider “A lot to pay for :

A watch. For me it’s £10,000. I like watches and have a few but I’d consider £10,000 a lot.

A house. For me a million is still a lot.

A meal for two. Easy to spend £100 and I think that’s a lot.

Shoes. Love shoes. I spend up to £200 on a pair. Above that’s a lot.

A holiday. £5000 is my ceiling.

A car. £20,000 is a lot to my mind. I’ve spent way more but you can get a great car for less.

I think what you’ve a strong interest in will be a factor. Many will think £200 is a lot for a watch and £2 million is not a lot for a house.

I’m intrigued.

I think it’s all relative to your interests and money available.

I don’t like watches enough to pay more than £500 but will pay more than £100 for a nice meal.

It also depends what are you getting for your money. £1M for a house is a lot of money but might be a bargain.

wouldn't spend close to that on a watch or house. I could go on a pretty epic holiday for 5k, my last holiday was amazing a third of that. £100 wouldn't cover more than 1 course and a drink in some of my favourite places, but also go to some places where you'd struggle to actually spend £50. As for cars I'm in the camp that nearly all new cars are now too expensive, partly because they are rammed full of expensive crap I neither need or want, so bugger if I'm spending thousands extra of stuff I won't use.

Watches are tough.. would i spend £20k on a AP Royal Oak? Yes i would… would i spend £80k on a grey market AP royal oak? No i wouldnt.

A house over £1 million is a lot.

Meal for two on occasion would be over £100 but we don’t drink so rare it happens.

Shoes i have spent £900 on a pair trainers

Holidays not really have a cap on but last few was £3-4k range.

Car i don’t really look at the cash price for car as i pcp so more interested in monthly and deposit size.

It is interesting, I suspect there will be much posturing on here with some inclined to say they are comfortable spending a lot of money to show of their wealth.

I will buck that trend... £20 is a lot of a t-shirt, £75 is a lot for shoes and £15 is a lot for a haircut. All these things are not interesting to me so I do begrudge paying anything for them.

Paying £50 for a couple of bland burgers and some iffy chips is ridiculous (yes that is a Five Guys reference).

£1000 is not a lot for a service on my car, which many will baulk at. £100 for 150 miles is quite reasonable.

A house over £500k is a lot, but I'm in Lincolnshire, so until recently that would have bought half the county. Had I lived closer to the south coast..... I'd have moved somewhere with houses closer to their true value.

As I'm not in my 20s anymore, I realised that buying things (especially things portray a wealthy image) is not going to bring any happiness. Financial security does though, so I'd much rather save money and buy a bargain.

I like good clothes, I don't really have an interest in designer names etc although I do stick to certain brands but I think they are better value. I do spend £100 on a pair of jeans but could pay £8 for a pair from Tesco's but the £100 ones fit better, look better and last longer but when I walk out of the shop I think to myself £100, that's a lot to pay for a pair of jeans.

A watch? Anything more than what an Apple watch (or android equivalent) is just daft.

Food for two? Who's paying over £50 at Five Guys?

A house? In the Midlands I wouldn't pay more than half a mill unless it has a lot of outdoor space. Having massive interior space is just wasted on me.

Holidays? Depends where and who I'm going with, no set budget but I like to keep costs down.

I have got tighter as I get older and always look for bargain or the cheaper option.

Don’t own a house so can’t comment, but never understood watches and why do people want to spend so much money one something that tells the time. I habe a couple of cheap seiko watches my dad had, and a Apple Watch I got for my bday.

T-Shirt £20, trainers £50 but I always buy in the sales.

Interesting reply and at £900 for trainers illustrating just my point.

For me £75 is “A lot” for trainers. Last pair I bought were £65 - Adidas Copa.

Interesting replies all.

Thanks

Dunno about 'a lot', but the most I've spent is:

A watch. £250 Christopher Ward. Never wear it.
A house. £380,000
A meal for two. No idea. Would be surprised if it were over £100 though
Shoes. £250 (I think) on a pair of Churches.
A holiday. £1500 or so on a trip to Japan.
A car. £8,000

Looking at the above makes me think I'm some kind of dandy.

To be honest i don’t make a habit of buying £900 trainers but for high end fashion i will only buy Louis Vuitton and thats the price you have to pay.

I have very different limits based in my own interests really.

A watch- most I've spent is around 4k, I could see me spending upto 10k if aomething special came up.

For the area I live I cant imagine spending over 500k which would buy a very substantial house in a decent area, my own house is worth a fair chunk less than that and I'm happy where I am.

Cars- I havent paid more than 20k so far, I always buy used so I get better cars for my money, will possibly go upto 30k on the next one though.

Holidays the max I've ever spent is around 5k but that was a one off, more typically 2k pays for a family holiday plus spending money.

£250m is a lot for a superyacht. I wouldn't really go above £100m.

I balk at the price of everything. I remember 15p for a bag of chips and 5p extra if you added a huge pickled onion. Now it’s triple cooked gourmet chips for a fiver in a tarted up tap room, that the landlord now calls ‘The Library’.
