Kids off road buggies?

We have two boys a three year old and an 18 month old, they have an electric Landrover the official merchandise one but we have no end of trouble with the batteries to the point I need to buy something else.

We live on a farm and are the landowner with lots of space land / noise isn’t an issue as we have no neighbours.

I don’t want to buy him a quad as they are lethal and I won’t have them on the farm at all, we have Kawasaki mules.

The only real option I have found is the Toylander but they are c. £1.5 - 2k for a secondhand one.

Anyone got any other options ?

Ideally not Chinese stuff where you can’t get the spares.

Wasp off road go kart is what we used to have. Honda Lawn mower engine, big balloon tyres, roll hoop, disc brakes. Still bloody dangerous when one drive it and one stood on the front backwards holding onto the steering column!

I've got my eye out for a second hand Polaris RZR 200 for our children. I do like the more utilitarian 150 Ranger too, but the RZR wins out on looks.

What batteries have you been using? Voltage needed?
Think I’d look at alternative battery options first.

The batteries are fine it’s the charging system that’s the issue, charger that goes into wall all ok (had it checked) and new batteries ok if we take out of car and put on car charger.

It’s the big between the wall charger and the batteries in the car that’s the issue.

I'm selling this at the moment. Good fun and only 6hp so not crazy fast. Seat belt, roll cage and a helmet and you are pretty safe.

Buy Ron Champion's "Build an Off Road Buggy" book and do it yourself.

I bought a copy in anticipation of building one for my daughters, but we never had the space to use one, so it never happened.

John Deere electric gator without a doubt. Seen them get some right hammer and keep on going, only about £500 too I think

Thanks guys, really dont want another electric one unless it has a car battery you can charge with a standard car charger.

On the landrover ones and the other ones shown they have their own charging circuit which seems to be the thing that goes wrong and they they are scrap or you have to strip them down to remove the batteries, recharge the batteries and re assemble ... which is what we are doing now.

The petrol buggy loks great but I thing we really need a two seater oen otherwise they just fight over it !!

I know of a a few families who have golf buggies to meet this requirement. Obviously battery powered but tried and tested, fast enough to get around, able to carry multiple people and pretty stable.

Lots of golf clubs are switching to electric buggies, but they've had petrol ones for years. Might well be some used ones to be had.

Is there any way you could add something like a CTEK connector to the batteries in the buggy, leave it accessible enough so you don't have to dismantle it?

Great minds ! Currently have two of our CTEK's charging the bateries, unfortunately the batteries have mini spade terminals so currently only the CTEK croc clips are the only ones that will charge them.
