1970s naff decor
Discussion
We were talkiing in the office about pictures we had in our house as kids,
Often above the fire was the Haywain,
Edward Munches the scream
and Van Gogh’s sunflowers.
Mum used to rent them from the local library for six months at a time,
and then send them back when she was bored with them.
not bad for a manchester council house.
This sort of thing was very common, can anyone else recall any others??

The principle behind that, both on the part of your mum and the library/council, is really admirable.edward munches the scream

Can you explain a bit more please as I'm not sure what you mean. Did the local library have framed prints you could rent out in the same way as books?often over the fire was the Haywain,

My parents had a brown dreylon three piece suite with a swivelling armchair
bought from the posh department store in Ilford, Harrison Gibson in the mid '70s.
Loved it!
Also remember there were lots of orange curtains going on.
They were never ones for pictures, so I was spared some of those horrors.
Some '70s stuff was and still is quite cool though.

'The Wings of Love' was massively popular.
Used to adorn many a suburban living room, complimented by the overflowing revolving ashtray on a stand!

Im guessing the artist had never seen a Swan in real life as the next frames would have been the swan attempting to rip the man's tackle off before beating the women to death with its wings. Followed by a brief wiggle of the tail feathers and a return to serenity, which just a hint of implied extreme violance.
Ex-rower here. Beautiful creatures, but bloody hell they're aggressive.

A mate of mine recently bought the premises next to his offices to extend into. On the top floor was this fantastic 70s wallpaper
That's fantastic it looks like the opening sequence of a Roger Moore era J.B film or Tales of the Unexpected both equally 70's tastic lol!!!Lord Marylebone said:

Yes, they used to hire out pics. Our local one in Dagenham used to have a load of them adorning the tops of the bookshelves. Also did records and tapesGassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
