I was wondering if your single what do you do for New Year - I am in my 50s?

Was looking at going skiing, but most dates seem to be leaving on the 24th, and I want to be at home for Christmas, or a weel later on the 31st which causes problems with return dates.

Was thinking maybe go London, see the fireworks.

I've not been single for ages. But when I was, modern Jive or Salsa nights were definitely a favorite. Usually plenty of single women there, usually a few more women than men smile

Always go away for that period - mostly to the US (New York or Vegas predominantly - the latter has ski options very close by). Ive also done Thailand, UAE, Hong Kong for NYE and they have been ok but prefer it in the US for some reason.

When in those shoes - I'd always not overthink it.

Christmas was the same.
Yes, it is a 'shame' not to be able to do things perhaps you normally would, or to share, plan and (dare I say boast what was done) but the reality is, both Christmas Day, and NYE are but single days. Stripped back they can be enjoyed without a mass effort, mass crowd - and indeed mass cost. Once you get your head around that and relax about it, let it flow rather than 'planned' - something inevitably cropped up and pivoted to that.

Have you spoken to your friends? Perhaps they are having a few drinks together, or going for a meal and would happily have you join for the evening.

As someone suggested perhaps look at going to the US for a long weekend? NY would be great this time of year and they are set-up to have big celebrations over the holiday period.

Edinburgh does have a small NY party this year. Tickets on sale today actually.

Drive up to Aviemore for some skiing for a few days.

I don't drink so I go out for a drive, then as midnight approaches I drive up the downs where I can see the whole town, and watch the fireworks. I'm not the only one!

I watch a bit of Jools, flicking between him and a movie depending on who the musical guests are.

Eat. Watch something maybe. Go to bed.

Just like any other day.

I realised at the age of around 10 that new years are all st so you may as well shun them completely. I don't even bother checking the time any more.

Not sure, but being single doesn't make NY any more st. My Wife hates NYE and NYD because we can't bring back her parents and the memories of her father's birthday on NYD. Nothing I've manage to plan, since they died, has been good enough.

Just because he’s single doesn’t mean he wants to go dogging laugh

If I was single this year what I’d definitely do and always wanted to do.
New Years in Amsterdam Centrum and enjoy the various local traditions in the local bars and “coffee” shops.

I just go to the pub and, if last year is anything to go by, make foolish decisions involving beer. Christmas Day gets a bit boring, but as someone else said, it's just another day. I think if I spent time trying to do great things I might dwell on why I'm doing them on my own, which sounds more bleak than intended.
