Not sure if there's a thread already along these lines?

I know Christmas seems to divide opinion - no doubt there are plenty on here who can't stand the fact it's only early Nov and Christmas ads are everywhere etc
But, personally, I cannot wait. For the first time ever I've got just under 3 weeks off work as I've had paternity leave this year which meant I haven't used much annual leave, so I'm taking a lot for Christmas.
This has been a tough year at work, and plenty of depressing news and cost of living etc etc so shutting down for 3 weeks and enjoying ourselves will be so nice.

I planned ahead ages ago and got Kew Gardens tickets to see the lights, I'm off the Ally Pally for the darts twice......and hopefully we'll be getting plenty of other festive plans in the diary.

Other Christmas highlights will be the 4 days or so down at my Dad's place with most of the family, the annual watching of films like Elf and Love Actually, and one of my guilty pleasures is whatever Christmas series Jamie Oliver puts out.

So, anyone else already allowing themselves to get excited?

Trying to stop the kids from being too excited is the hard bit! But yes it’s a special time of the year for anyone with small kids. Did have plans to take them to Lapland one year but holy cow the prices have shot up after the pandemic.

Nope, proper grinch here. Hate it and everything about it. Even when kids were small I hated it

Possibly goes back to time working in retail and in bars. Was utterly sick of it by the time it arrived

Only plus is I get couple of weeks off. Unfortunately the wife doesn't so it means jack-all

Kids are 20 and 18 now and out doing their own thing

Bah humbug

Love it. We went Christmas shopping yesterday. Bought loads of decorations and presents. I'll see what I can pick up tech wise on Black Friday. It's very satisfying knowing you've bought everything and don't need to venture out braving the queues and masses.

I liken Christmas to sex - all the build up, anticipation and it's all over in seocnds. biggrin

Remember to watch this film before Die Hard so that Alan Rickman gets suitably punished.

Speak for yourself. We make it last for ages (Christmas lol) trips to see lights, Santa, chatsworth, cut down the tree, shopping in Liverpool etc…

Haha, oh yes.

With 3 weeks off this Christmas I'm tempted to allow myself two showings of Love Actually. For me it really IS Christmas.

I'm determined to make every day in December feel like Christmas. But I do understand the feeling of it being over quickly, because you're basically building up to it for 25 days of December, then in the blink of an eye it's Boxing day, and as much as you convince yourself it's not over, that really is the end of Christmas, although the 'festive period' does keep going for a bit.

Just gone way too commercial for me. The sums of money being spent it’s just not in the spirit as far as I am concerned.

A friend of a friend spent 5 grand on presents for 3 kids so far. I just find it all too much.

Yeah that's absurd really. If nothing else I just love the days off work and guilt free eating and drinking.

Other than 18 consecutive days off work, and the top quality craft beer advent calendar I've ordered, which will be nice, I'll be glad when it's all over.

Not a fan, but the wife is, so I'll put a happy face on and put up with the 2 christmas trees (living room and dining room), plus various other decorations for the duration, and I'll make sure all shopping is complete by the end of November.

Yeah I look forward to Christmas. Festive, downtime, the movies/music, food, kids and to some extent the wider family.

The only bit i don't like is the sodding Elves and thinking what to do with them for 25 days.

We're going to get a real christmas tree this year too.
