I've been trying to find a once a week / fortnight evening class / similar so that, once work for the day has ended and our semi-grown up children are fed, Mrs Hurstg01 and I can both create something / learn something / volunteer together that is not work / children related.

There's not much near me, so may have to look further afield - what do you both do together along the lines of the above?

Going for walks is quite therapeutic, even if it’s just for an hour!

We have a 2 year old lab, so that's one thing we do quote a lot smile

I've always fancied learning how to do stained glass.

Ballroom dancing.

My wife wanted to try it 5-6 years ago, I tagged along with a view to go once to be seen to make an effort. We still go pretty much every week, plus social evenings every now and again.

I started going to an evening music class about 8 years ago. I already played guitar, but this helped me brush up on it and meant I was pushed to learn new songs and got to play as a band too at the end of the lesson. I've since done drumming there and this term I'm doing vocals.

I'd say that the bulk of my friends now are somehow related to going to this class and my wife has made friends with them too; she has been going to an art class with the wife of one of the music class friends. I took early retirement this year and I've been kept busy with the various music projects that have come out of it (including a semi-professional band I play guitar in), plus some guitar repair work too off the back of it.

I'm sure that other classes might also have a good social side too, which you and your wife might enjoy as well as the class itself.

Yoga, pilates, spin or whatever. Stay at the back of the class pretending to exercise, whilst perving at the fitties in the front. biggrin

As for volunteering:

if you live near the coast there are a lot of jobs you could volunteer for - Coastguard, NCI, RNLI etc. You could also learn new skills and meet fantastic people in Mountain and Lowland Rescue.

Or Cubs/Scout/Beavers etc are crying out for volunteers.

I once did an evening class with some mates from work.

We chose wine appreciation at the local evening school, with a decent sommelier.

There was a lot of appreciation going on, & a couple of classes got rather messy towards the end.
