As per thread title.

I'd go for 1973. Not a care in the world, plenty of crumpet and great music, Bowie, T Rex, Slade, Led Zeppelin etc.

Happy days indeed.

April '66 to April '67. Saw Hendrix, first real love, spent all summer on the beach, had the greatest Christmas ever, was really happy hippy

Let’s see how many posts aren’t about the 60s, 70s and 80s, then smile

1999.

Finished year 10 that summer and...

School trip to Prague for a week

First gig (Aerosmith at Wembley)

First cruise (on the QE2) which led to my first time going to the USA (also First holiday in years due to family money issues)

First kiss (with an American girl who was sooooo far out of my league but loved British accents)

First time going to the Caribbean (Christmas)

And just that general late 90s nostalgia...

1974. I was 16 and tasting my first independence - going to my first discos, cycling to my local airport to watch the aeroplanes, just not being a kid anymore. I have great fondness for the pop music of that year - even if it wasn't a classic year for pop.

There have been other far more important years and events in my life but there's something about 1974 that always makes me smile.

This is a nice thread so I'm not knocking the idea. But isn't it really "At what age were you at you happiest?" and thats why the 60s and 70s references are coming up. It was early 70s for me with strikes, inflation, power cuts, fuel shortages etc.

But that's because I was a kid and loved glam rock, Dad's Army, The Goodies, flared trousers and a simple life with no responsibilities. biggrin

Probably 2006 on balance. I was 17 and had a lot of 'firsts' that year wink

You are correct - to some extent. I wouldn't just say "happiest". I've had lots of really happy experiences (and very sad ones too) since my favourite year. But it's more a feeling I have now looking back. I think for many of us, our favourite years are when we were between 14 to 18/19 - usually because we had no real pressures or responsibilities on us (apart from the usual school related ones).

1992. I was 18 so had my first hot hatch, the music was incredible, I was seeing my first love and life was pretty much one big party. Some great experiences that year including spectating the Rally of GB with mates and moving out of the family home. You never know it at the time but you always look back and realise that those carefree days before mortgages and meetings were the best times in life.

2000 aged 18 didn’t realise how good I had it, hindsight is a wonderful thing

Had a cracking well paid job that was paying me to go to uni
A stunning girlfriend (really didn’t appreciate how nice she was both inside and out), so much bonking - I remember older blokes at work saying they were lucky if they got action once a month, we were at it at least once a day, I just thought it was the norm

Some really good holidays ( I was in a youth band and work gave me two additional weeks off to go on a tour in Canada)

Le Mans for the first time

Numerous fun cars

On weekends out all night until very early, sleeping in until 3pm when my girlfriend would finish her weekend job and would want a shag!

Didn’t have a great deal but just chilling with mates etc really was time of my life, I’d do anything to rewind

That said, it’s not to say I am unhappy with my lot now

2002.

Got married, career was moving in the right direction post uni...

Happy with where it's all ended up, still happily married, still happy career wise...

The other thing about those days that I miss is all the family members and friends who are no longer with us.

Over the last decade, I've developed a thing whereby alternate years are good or bad.
Odd numbered years are good years, and even numbered are bad. Don't know why.

This year was all set up to be great. I booked up to do everything possible. Holidays, gigs, festivals, F1 Silverstone etc etc.
But I get towards the end of the year and just feel meh...Inflation, interest rates, doom & gloom in the press etc etc. And work has been stressful as a knock-on.
2020 was pretty st for obvious reasons.
Roll on 2023!

1989 when I was 23 was the same for that.

1996 and losing my mind at Kibbutz Samar in the Arava Desert on huge amounts of weed, sun and acid probably rates as my favourite year as it was so mind-blowing and insane and just couldn't be repeated again smile

2017 - I moved to Florida in Oct 2016 and back to the UK in Oct 2018, so 2017 was the time was there for the whole year. Best time of my life living there.

2010. I was made redundant. I got a nice chunk of cash and started dabbling more seriously in the markets. I made a much larger chunk of cash. No one 'owned' me (aside from the wife biglaugh). I had more money than ever and temporary financial freedom. We must have taken about 5 or 6 holidays that year. Waking up , knowing that you don't have to go to work to live is a fantastic feeling, especially when you are younger.
Wonderful time.
With the benefit of hindsight, I should really have taken that cash and cleared the mortgage off but I gambled on the chance I could permanently retire at 38....
Sadly, the year after, it all went t*ts up and I pretty much lost the lot. (I did treat myself to an M3 from some of the proceeds though so not all bad biggrin)
I've never been anywhere near that position again, nor will I ever be. Ah well..
Thanks 2010 for the memories! byebye

Aside from that, 1995. Amazing year. Lads holidays, constantly out on the beers. The last year of being single, before I met my wife to be... biglaugh
