Growing up, my parents weren’t massively into Christmas which they continue to this day. I didn’t have Turkey etc. on Christmas Day for example. Not for any religious reasons I should add.

But I married into a very ‘Christmassy’ family so the idea of family Christmas traditions intrigued me.

So what are yours?

Growing up we had an aunt and uncle with a big house (with an indoor pool) who hosted the whole extended family every boxing day. Huge Christmas lunch then a dip in the pool smile

These days our tradition is to watch Scrooged and Christmas Vacation every year.

Always roast a gammon joint Christmas Eve. Ham, egg and chips for dinner. Rest of the gammon cold over the next few days.

Christmas morning always Cava and orange juice opening the presents. Always roast beef.

It used to be to get through the days somehow, but given Jesus's birthday preps now start in September, it's becoming harder and harder each year.

Opening of presents in the afternoon. Always roast beef with ALL the trimmings for lunch. Always a Boxing Day buffet with wider relatives.

You won’t want the patio door open too long with energy prices

We make pork pies to a family recipe. A tradition started by my grand-parents and then my parents.

Make about 10 and deliver them on Christmas Eve.

Most of the recipients then eat some pie for breakfast.

Go on holiday. I try to put at least 8000 miles between me and my problems.

But a somewhat inevitable outcome given what his parents called him.

Watch Mary Poppins.

In addition to the normal stuff I hasten to add. Not just watching Mary Poppins.

And Bullitt and 2001 if I can.

Definitely Mary Poppins though.

No idea why. Just a tradition.

I knew a man with a wooden leg called Smith.

Always Christmas Vacation in the run up. Cathedral on Christmas Eve and out for a meal afterwards. Back to watch random Christmas movie (although it’s going to be Glass Onion this year).

Christmas really starts on the journey to the Cathedral. At that stage the pressure is off because if anything has not been done it’s too late so just enjoy it.
