Passenger front tyre was losing air so I've investigated and the wheel's got a crack in it. Therefore I've had to put the Harry on until I can get it fixed!

What has this got do with Cockney rhyming slang? There is no rhyme in using Harry to mean spare.
Maybe Ginger would be better.

Nowt,
I think OP was thinking an "hilarious" link to Prince Harry's book Spare?

Because BigandClever said it was 'contrived!'

Isn’t the point of Cockney rhyming slang that there are two words used with the last one rhyming with the one word it’s replacing? Like stairs (apples and pears), but the rhyming word is often dropped. In this case as long as he could come up with a common phrase that’s “Harry and xxxxxx” where the xxxxxx is a rhyming word with spare then he could just about get away with it.

Bit of a stretch though.

You can’t ask for something that you instigate to be accepted into folklore. We have committees and things for such matters, refer to the 200 month club sec for details.

In any case, it’s a bad pun on a topical issue. It’s not even close to finding a TVR in a barn and claiming ownership or fitting a Ferrari engine in a Punto…..

Are you expecting your replacement wheel to decide it wants to go in a different direction to the other wheels, start to make loud whining noises and venting hot air, before finally falling off and ending up in a ditch with nothing but an old shopping trollop trolley for company?

It’s too contrived and you had to explain it.

Ph folklore is gold like

Sleep with one eye open.

I also like to think my phrase of “ a weak lemon drink” which has been so often repeated in the Walt thread, is getting there.

No one will care less about Harry now his books out and other meaningless drivel replaces his wittering.
