A quick question about shaving
Discussion
I keep reading about straight razors and double edge razors. It's piqued my interest. I keep a short stubble beard and shave my neck, following the contour of the underside of my jawline, and line up all edges using a disposable razor. Would a cut throat be better suited to this task than a de razor, or vice versa?
Cut throats take some to time to master (hence the name) and a double edge razor will be more practical, but you can still cut yourself badly.
There’s a thread about it on here somewhere.
I tried lots of different razors and blades plus different creams and brushes over a 10 year period, plus watched lots of videos.
In the end I ditched it all and use a good disposable Gillette and Body Shop cream applied with a badger brush.

I used to be a wet shave fan at the barbouse but it's costly, I also used to buy Gillet, pro max alpha 10 blade swivel power ultra carbon racing elite ninja eclipse blades when they came out.
Truth is a shave with a Gillet blue 3 for £3 disposable is almost as good as the top end blades and they are almost as good as a cut throat.
I also drive a Seat and an Audi....the seat is the daily. Read into that what you will but unless its an itch you just have to scratch I would not bother

My my, I just went down a rabbit hole with straight razors. Found a forum and started eyeing up £100 vintage razors on eBay. Someone posted a vid of a bloke having a shave, the faff involved, and the comments from people saying it can take them 2 hours... Nope. Not for me. Perhaps I'll just buy a cheapy that has replaceable blades.
I went down the DE route years ago - you can do in in 30 nicely or even 10 mins quickly - mins and it feels kind of nice but ultimately it is time consuming and the results for me were that much different than a Mach 3 because I would shave my entire face usually.
I played with a SE but way harder and didn't have the time to faff.

Would you not be better off using an electric trimmer for what you want to achieve ?
And what exactly is it I'm trying to achieve?goldar said:
