I'm selling an old mobile phone. Not worth much - £50 but I listed on Facebook marketplace, and got a reply from someone who sounds foreign and it's got my suspicions up, as this seems a bit odd and also the replies came through instantly, which seems like it's a bot or someone who has the replies stored on their device. Exchange below. Names covered for privacy. What do you think?

Block and ignore. Cash only in person - ideally met away from your address

You don't even need to ask if it is. Blatant.

Nobody but a scammer speaks like that. It's clear from the first message.

They will send another message saying fedex needs to pay insurance to cover the envelope of cash. They say they will add extra cash to cover your expenses.
You will the get a payment portal link emailed to you spoofed to look like it came from fedex

I’ve always wanted to go along and see if I can get someone to turn up to the house number nearby that doesn’t exist

My parents road would be excellent for this it doesn’t have a 1, 3 or 5

It would never get that far, you’ll be ripped off at the point of entering your card details (as above).

FedEx won't do cash collections. No parcel carrier will.

Obviously a scam.

As mentioned above, a fake payment link or else someone will turn up and collect the phone (ebay, paid by Paypal) and then 'buyer' will claim it wasn't them and get a PayPal refund.

Cheers all, you can probably tell I don't sell things online very often laugh but it certainly didn't feel right.

Funnily enough CEX are offering more than I was selling it for anyway so I'll nip down at the weekend.

Cheers PHers!

My wife gets a new pixel phone every year, cex offer a pretty decent price. I found going to two or three can make a big difference in price (but probably not at the £50 level)

Personally I’m a gumtree man, I ask people to phone me or whatever and those who can’t follow instructions as eliminated from the sale

I get them for nearly everything i sell on FB. It's a well known scam, you send them £100 for "insurance" via some money transfer service. Doesn't matter if the item is only £30-40
