What are some good small charities?
Discussion
What are some good charities with <£500K revenue to donate to?
I'd rather not start a discussion on the effectiveness of small charities vs. large ones; I just prefer that end of the spectrum.
Here are some, but I am looking for new ideas, and some of these have grown past £500K since I first came across them.
Phone Credit for Refugees
Luminary Bakery Women's Programmes
Children's Book Project
Zarach Beds
Gaza Dog Rescue

Just look for a local one such as a food bank.I'd rather not start a discussion on the effectiveness of small charities vs. large ones; I just prefer that end of the spectrum.

If you're near Lewisham I chair one - Brighter Horizons, a day centre for adults with SEN. When the council closed the day centres we pooled PIP payments and replicated the service on a not for profit basis. These PIP payments would otherwise pay for an hour or 2 of care, instead we can provide a full (school type) day. This lets carers/parents have some respite or go to work.
Last year was under the income hurdle (due to the pandemic) but due to the number of people that want to come to the centre (c70!) I think this year will see us above.

That's Care International. £500M revenue. Also I already have some money on Kiva, which gets re-lent as it's paid back.Parity for Disability for people with multiple disabilities.

I'm involved in one - https://www.justgiving.com/careforwildrhinosanctua... - supporting the saving of orphaned baby rhinos when their mothers are poached for their horn. More at www.careforwild.co.za or pm me if I can help with any questions

The CSJ Foundation could be worth a look
They help to connect small, grassroots charities to donors, and work to get policy for ongoing support

They provide ruck sacks for kids going into Foster care in South Wales so the kid doesn't have to use carrier bags or black bin bag to carry their few belongings.
I'm sure similar charities exist in your local area

That's very specialized, and very touching, especially since I've always been interested in fostering, but can't because reasons. Thank you. They provide ruck sacks for kids going into Foster care in South Wales so the kid doesn't have to use carrier bags or black bin bag to carry their few belongings.

These guys could do with some financial help:

Outdoor learning centre for kids with SENS or those from crappy inner London schools e.g Newham who has never seen live animals / trees / green field in their life!
(I volunteer there myself, helping / instructing the activities such as bushcraft, sensory trail, mtb, building raft, climbing, caving, abseiling, archery, crossbow, zip wire etc.. but not the farm section as I don't like sweeping poo
)

)You can search for charities in different areas with various parameters on the Charity Commission website

What might be "good" is to a varying degree subjective though.

Steps Not the pop group, although they could probably do with some help now. They specialise in children with lower limb deformities. It isn't very high profile and so struggles to fund raise but makes a huge difference to a lot of families. My daughter had hip dysplasia and was really failed by the NHS but Steps were awesome, lots of great advice and practical help, lending us specialised equipment that made life possible with a 3 year old in a plaster cast from her ankle to her chest.
