Somewhere along our lengthy car journey from Cornwall yesterday once again SWMBO reflected upon how pleased she was to have left her job at M&S, personally I could never see the problem & had regularly offered to job share, given that she had been the bra fitting guru.

Anyway we spoke of the coronation on Saturday 6th May and debated the worthiness of the celebratory day being two days later on the 8th. As always her thoughts are with the poor sods working in retail who presumably would be rostered to work on Coronation Day, as it is not a public holiday, even if they wanted to watch.

So what exactly is the reasoning behind the public holiday not being on coronation day ?
Can anyone explain ?

Normally it would have been on Friday 5th but they moved it to the 8th to avoid interfering with the local elections

Aren't elections normally on a Thursday?

However, even if the Friday 5th were declared a public holiday, that's still not the coronation day, so lots of people would have to work rather than join in with the celebrations.

It might actually be better anyway. A lot more people will be at home that day watching the proceedings, rather than out shopping.

Handily I was on annual leave that week any way, made it much more pleasing knowing I shall be away for it all in foreign lands

Vote on Thursday. Count (mostly) on Friday.

We’ve got a leave embargo in place for that weekend. Seemed a good time to reallocate my bank holidays to then! Five bank holidays in a row hopefully!
