£100 black work shoes
Discussion
Hello all - where, in your experience, can you get a decent, robust pair of shoes for work, circa £100 - £125?
I work in Construction, not finance or legal. So i am thinking something half decent, one step down from a Loake or similar. How about Geox?
Have you found somewhere years ago that you return to time and again?

Can't go wrong. I had my last pair four and a half years. Very comfy. Had to buy another pair recently as the old ones got scuffed too much but apart from that, they are fantastic.
Clarks outlet is a good shout for good budget shoes, normally 30-40% reductions so you'll get £100 shoes for maybe £60
I will say find your local independant shoe shop and see what they can do.
I paid less than £50 for some new-old stock black brogues a few years ago and they're still going fine now.

Do the shoes need to be the safety type with protected soles and toes?
I have to wear safety shoes for work (manufacturing engineering) and found that swapping to composite “armour” made the shoes a lot lighter and more comfortable. They still pass all the crust and penetration tests but without the weight.

Hotter. No doubt people will make OAP jokes, but they're jolly comfy and on or under budget. They last well too. 20% off at the mo (there's almost always an offer).

These are what I wear; they're cheap, comfortable and polish up well;https://www.clarksoutlet.co.uk/p/261550907
as a thought, even if not in ppe required areas its worth looking at boots rather than shoes as surfaces in construction can be uneven and boots will give you a little protection, they'll slip in your trouser leg.
I work in IT within the construction industry so things like temporary paths, steps up to portakabins etc are as close to work sites and ppe as I ever get. I expect you're the same and will have PPE in bag should you need it.

I had Dr Martens steel toe cap work boots while working in tool shops.

They seemed to take away the cold from the concrete, and were comfy for all day use in that they offered good support and cushioning.
Both were important for me as I suffer hyper-mobility and it messes my knees up. I can also confirm the toe protector works after a slab of steel dropped on my foot

i think its clear he doesn't mean ppe, the lack of comprehension on here is sometimes staggering.
i'm in engineering but wear better shoes than anyone in finance or legal. that's saying more about this workplace than my finances though!
you can get extremely good shoes if you don't need them urgently. usually easy enough to bag a pair of 250-300quid shoes for under a ton from the likes of grenson, cheaney et al. i tend to wear oliver sweeney for work as they are the most comfortable for my feet for extended use.
also depending how casual your office is, look at cole haan. not sure if that well known in uk, but they're owned by nike. some versions are semi-trainer like, others look exactly like a normal welted sole but with a full length air unit.

What an odd thing to say. He clearly says he works in construction yet doesn't say doesn't have to be PPE. Anyway, as long as you think it's clear, I guess that's all that matters.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
