Does anyone know what this is? Initially I assumed it was scaffolding to extend the existing building but having had a better look (photo was taken in stationary traffic, engine off) its some sort of structure but I can't figure out what. Its around Jnc 12-13 of the M1 on the right as you head south (ie the West).

Looks like the massive Amazon warehouse is being extended. It'd just be layers of internal structure and/or storage presumably.

It's a scaffolding distribution warehouse that has had most of the roof and sides blown off by severe winds.

It will be a massive warehouse. There are a few of them up that way - the cladding is coloured in strips to help blend in with the sky and make them less obvious.

Usually a distribution hub.

On the other hand, looking at the huge cloud being sucked into it, it could be one of the new Cloud storage facilities. scratchchin

Looks like a 3D warehouse / distribution centre.

Pallets come in, onto goods in rollers, robot cranes store them wherever they see fit within the 3D matrix ‘tubes’.

Pallet requested, robot crane finds it, brings it down to goods out rollers, wagon pulls up to gate and gets 52 pallet load forklifted onto it.

It’s very impressive if you’ve not seen one before.

Yep, a pallet storage warehouse, otherwise known as Hi bays, using automated stacking cranes running up and down the (16) aisles for pallet storage and retrieval fed by infeed and outfeed conveyors usually to an operator to directly pick customer orders from. They've been around since the 80s, many were Dexion installations as they made the racking, Black &Decker had one a similar size in Northampton.

I thought the Amazon warehouse was on the other side of the motorway near to Ridgmont? smile

Ah fk a hole-defect in the sky screens revealing the underlying matrix.
Don’t worry, it’s just an Amazon warehouse.
I’ll have to get some memory operatives on the way to everyone in this thread now.

It’s just normal narrow isle pallet racking. Nothing new.
Colour scheme is for Amazon.
